National differences

edit

Anecdotally, I am lead to believe that the chocolate/Easter association is much stronger in Australia than it is in the United States. (My cousin was apparently rather upset on her first Easter living in New York City, to discover that there was far less emphasis on chocolate than in Australia.) Can anyone comment further on this? --SJK (talk) 09:41, 24 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • Oz sounds like the UK. I moved to the US from the UK, and there's hardly any "culture" of chocolate; which explains why there are so few chocolate eggs. I have a clear memory of a Woolworth's shop window full of chocolate easter eggs from every brand. Anything that had chocolate in it would have an easter egg special. Here, there's far more emphasis on the Easter Bunny and egg hunts than there is back home.--Rfsmit (talk) 19:24, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Couldn't you have fixed the (multiple) vandalism yourself with about as much effort as it took to mention it here? (I've done it now.) 76.202.61.191 (talk) 04:40, 19 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal

edit

I don't see any value in this page. It's pretty much covered in the chocolate page. If we keep this page, why not a page or chocolate bunnies and chocolate santas? I'm not sure "merge" is really the right procedure. I'm really proposing a blank and redirect to chocolate.--Ishi Gustaedr (talk) 01:34, 22 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oppose - Chocolate egg would receive no special attention then it already has on the Chocolate page. Limetolime talk to me look what I did! 20:20, 22 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm not suggesting that it get any more attention on the chocolate page. That's why I said "merge" might not be the right process. As I said, the "merge" would be more like blanking and redirecting. Should I propose a deletion instead?--Ishi Gustaedr (talk) 21:18, 22 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Strongly oppose - Chocolate eggs are a significant subset of confectionery. In the UK, entire store fronts are given over to chocolate eggs, annually, nationwide. Such a thing simply could not happen with other chocolate products.--Rfsmit (talk) 19:29, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Oh great. I come to a talk page, contribute on a subject I know intimately and very fatteningly, then I go to read the article, and discover it's been deleted and redirected to the article about the raw material. Apparently, chocolate eggs don't exist any more. Thanks Wonkypedia "editors"! Looks like some education would be in order...--Rfsmit (talk) 19:32, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Just some more on that -- chocolate Easter eggs are the only way many people celebrate Easter in the UK. There's no bunny, egg hunt, or anything like that: just eggs, and lots of 'em. That's what makes it a notable institution--Rfsmit (talk) 19:47, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
