Notability discussion

edit

Note to User Avraham (talk · contribs): You are probably aware that there are very few such organizations, so your notation in the prod to delete that: "Not every anti-Lashon Hara organization is notable. Nor is every Monsey organization" is simply not accurate as well as belittling. This organization organizes and sponsors regular national (in the USA) seminars and international gatherings as well as creating video and film footage of leading Haredi rabbis that is shown to Haredi audiences on days like Tisha BeAv in hundreds of locations worldwide. It's pretty much a one-of-a-kind organization, so to make it sound like there are somehow others like it is ridiculous (as anyone familiar with the English-speaking Haredi world would know.) The Monsey part is not important. No more important than where any other organization or company has its home office. Note, instead of contacting only me, you should have also brought your concerns to a wider audience at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Judaism where other editors familiar with Judaic topics could be made aware and give input. (I have now done so.) You also failed to notify Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Judaism which I have now done. Thanks. IZAK (talk) 07:35, 10 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Firstly, it was a prod, not an AfD, IZAK, and I notified you as the author. Secondly, I know about the CCHF, I get their mailings all of the time. I still do not think that they pass WP:ORG. Having full-page ads in the Yated and Hamodia does not count for multiple coverage in secondary sources. This article remains unsourced and notability unestablished, per wiki standards. Please correct these issues to ensure an AfD is not required. Thank you. -- Avi (talk) 07:52, 10 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I was not the author of this article originally, I spun it off from a larger disambiguation page of a "Chofetz Chaim" page a long time ago as it was cluttering up that page. You could have asked me about that also. That is why it needs to be brought to the attention of more Judaic editors, not just me. You are being somewhat facetious and you even sound like a non-Jewish editor who has no clue about current key communal Judaic issues when you start talking like this. User Shirahadasha (talk · contribs) had once noted [1] in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chaim Dov Keller that: "...Religious sources and media of notable religious organizations are perfectly acceptable reliable sources to establish notability of religious subjects and figures. Notability in the field, not notability in general media, is the standard, and that is met here. There is no problem I can see that can justify a delete vote..." and the same applies here by your own admission that this organization not only takes out very prominent ads in the Yated Ne'eman (United States); Hamodia; The Jewish Press and others, as well as the newsletters even you receive (I don't!) that not only publicize its highly rabbinically endorsed work but it also makes those events happen nationwide in the USA and internationally. So your prod is highly puzzling coming from an editor familiar with this organization (yet strangely belittling it as you admit to its media fame and hence notability.) No doubt there are many other additional references that can be found by simple web searches as well that you could have done yourself instead of bothering me with it. OK, I added enough respectable sources and citations to choke a horse. Shalom! IZAK (talk) 11:28, 10 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
