Pronunciation of Name

edit

Is the G supposed to pronounced (like in "finger") or not (like in "singer")? I've heard broadcasters use both terms, and they're not known for being reliable anyway. 70.153.213.68 02:10, 8 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

The 'g' is pronounced like the 'g' in 'finger'...Chris Pron-Gurr — Preceding unsigned comment added by BB Hibou (talkcontribs) 01:21, 19 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Best player(s) in 2006 NHL playoffs

edit

The current article contains the following statement:

He was also the best players in NHL playoffs in 2006, leading the Oilers to the Stanley Cup Final.

Obviously, this sentence is grammatically incorrect. I would suppose that it was meant to read as:

He was also one of the best players in the 2006 NHL playoffs, leading ...

Unfortunately, someone skimming may read it as:

He was also the best player...

This of course may be held as an opinion, but certainly is not factual. In fact, the Conn Smythe Trophy, which is awarded to the "Most Valuable Player in the Stanley Cup Playoffs" was given to Carolina Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward in 2006. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.33.49.251 (talk) 16:16, 30 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Unencyclopdic?

edit

"He can use his 6'6" (198 cm) frame to reach pucks and physically dominate the opposition." Writing of this nature should not be in an encylopedia entry. I'm deleting it. If someone disagrees, tell me why and then replace it. Sven Erixon 07:11, 9 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

No, I agree. I was eyeing that before and thinking of removing it. I left it alone until the vandals finally gave up on this page. Looks like you just beat me to it. Resolute 02:40, 11 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Numbers

edit

Check the total amounts of the points for the seniors on the main page since there are many errors. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.24.236.84 (talk) 19:12, 10 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Like what? The olympic numbers, at least, are accurate according to TSN.ca. If there are glaring errors, feel free to correct them. Though I am curious what source you have that indicates an error. Resolute 02:40, 11 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Weasel Words

edit

My addition of the weasel template was directed at "was considered by some to be impatient and immature." in the first paragraph. Who are these anonymous people? See WP:WEASEL for suggestions. ccwaters 15:54, 21 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dunno who these people were at the time, but the reputation appears to have followed Pronger, as it was repeated in an nhl.com article this past June. That said, I am not entirely certain that statement really belongs, as "impatient and immature" could describe many rookie atheletes. Resolute 16:00, 21 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Trade to Anaheim

edit

Can someone give me more information as to what his wife was bitching about? WTF is so bad about edmonton that she forced Pronger to give up a supporting city and move again. Hopefully it isn't the case of some American Yuppie bitch who can't stand the idea of "snow" in "winter". I would greatly appreciate more links that detail the situation better. HEck, guide me to some message boards or something, i really want to know wtf Mrs. Pronger's problem with Edmonton was. --The Animal 00:14, 22 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

A rumor was floating around blogs that Pronger impregnated a TV journalist. Not verified, not encyclopedic. All that's known officially is that she was unhappy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.161.23.129 (talk) 16:35, 17 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Not to mention, the rumor was false. Christy Chorley put up cease and desist warnings on her website about spreading the rumor. The real reason was that her wife (and possibly kids) didn't like what Edmonton had to offer. I am an Oilers fan, and I can't see Pronger throwing away the chance to be on a contending team on his own. I would live for 5 years in Alaska if it meant I had a chance to get my name on the cup. nickname and birthdate

edit

recent changes by a guy who so far has just been vandal stuff changed the birthdate to dec 10. Those in the know may want to check this. I'd hate to revert it on the chance a random vandal may actually be contributing. He also changed the nickname to something similar to the previous. I don't know if its right or wrong those in the know on this as well may want to look--Xiahou 23:41, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Good catch. Both changes are misinformation. Based on the user's history, deliberate misinformation. Resolute 23:47, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
no problem glad you knew if right or wrong.--Xiahou 00:52, 28 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Top Image

edit

We need a better top image here. The back of Pronger's head doesn't seem to good, his face should be shown. GoodDay 17:26, 16 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Pronger's mother

edit

Why had someone deleted the information that Pronger's mother is Finnish? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 194.251.240.113 (talkcontribs). — Preceding undated comment added 12:29, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I failed to see why that is relevant. It's basically a trivia piece. Perhaps you could help me understand why it is important to know why Pronger's mother is Finnish? Resolute 14:51, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

-- Why is important to know that Paul Kariya's father is Japanese, Tiger Woods' mother comes from Thailand or Lewis Hamilton's grandparents are from Grenada? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 84.251.253.225 (talk) 19:03:04, August 19, 2007 (UTC)

I used geolocate and found out your just a proud person from Finland, no offense but Tiger Woods is more important than Chris Pronger and therfore deserves a bigger article.Starwars1791 (talk) 03:35, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

WP:POV argument, and invalid. Both athletes deserve complete articles. Size is irrelevant, and so is perceived importance. FWIW, I've since reversed my opinion on the matter since my original removal. An individual's immediate ancestry is a useful piece of a complete section on a subject's personal history. Active NHL players to be a captain of two different NHL teams

edit

I don't think it's necessary to keep track of the active NHL players who are/were captain of two different NHL teams in this article. I suggest the paragraph be simplified to simply say that he has been captain of two teams.--SaskatchewanSenator (talk) 19:49, 12 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'd have to agree. I'm not a fan of that particular section anyway, as the wording almost seems like it's saying those players serve or served as the captain of two teams at the same time ("one of four currently active players to be a captain of two different teams"). If that particular part of it stays, I'd like to see it changed to say something like "... active players to have served as captain of two different teams ..." Or maybe it's just me that thought that sentence was strange. Tstreet (talk) 19:13, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Didn't Scott Niedermayer captain two teams, the New Jersey Devils in 2004 and the Anaheim Ducks in 2006? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.158.85.143 (talk) 11:03, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Trade To LA?

It Just Said On The Score that Pronger got traded to la for Jack Johnson and a 1st round draft pick. —Preceding unsigned comment added by KingRaven44 (talkcontribs) 20:30, 12 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Nothing is official yet. —Krm500 (Communicate!) 20:33, 12 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Both the Kings and Ducks are denying at this point. The Score is working off a rumour, which was based on a remarkably unreliable source. Best wait for other news outlets to confirm before we begin changing articles. Resolute 20:35, 12 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Also of note, there is a complete roster freeze until the season ends. No trade can possibly be completed until the Cup is won tonight. Resolute 20:43, 12 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Incorrect, only teams participating in the playoffs are subject to the roster freeze. Teemu08 (talk) 21:27, 12 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Injury report: I know he suffered from three separate concussions and says the headaches come and go but I believe it is the injury to his eye that prevents him from playing? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Plelbcam (talkcontribs) 00:07, 20 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

2010 Stanley Cup Finals

edit

Some facts for the mathematically challenged editor with an anti-Pronger agenda. He was a +3. Even if he was a -7 as the editor claims, using that to claim the player had a bad series fails to take into account how terrible the Flyers goaltenders were, something which is widely acknowledged as the primary reason the Flyers lost the series. Judging by plus/minus alone game five was Pronger's worst, but look at the save percentages of the goaltenders in that game: .769 and .786. --Parkfly3 (talk) 18:44, 2 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Too tired to edit

edit

Too tired to fix this right now, but the paragraph near the end of the Philadelphia Flyers section mentions the incident with Grabovski not once, not twice but three separate times, all independently. That entire paragraph needs to be rewritten! MrAureliusRTalk! 10:10, 12 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
