Better part of four days?

edit

I take issue with the following paragraph: "Sawyer developed an interest in roller coasters, and changed the project into what would become RollerCoaster Tycoon. During the research for this game, Sawyer rode a roller coaster so many times that he ended up in bed for the better part of four days."

What does it mean, "for the better part of four days"? When were the four days mentioned? I want to know where this bit came from. Red Plum 02:28, 17 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

In other words, you'd like a citation (and clarification) for the statement. You can mark it with the {{fact}} template. I've done it for you in the article. — Frecklefoot | Talk 13:53, 17 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Question

edit

I'm not sure how this factors in to what you have written, but where does Transport Tycoon Deluxe factor into this? My History is a bit fuzzy, but its fair to say he did in fact make improvements on the original Transport Tycoon.

The way i'm reading the article implies to me that he switched from Transport Tycoon, Straight onto Rollercoaster tycoon.

It might also warrant creating a list on his video games and citing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenTTD as proof that some 'Cult' players continue to play and innovate upon games to this day.

I won't edit personally because i'm sure theres a question of relevance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 148.197.5.20 (talkcontribs)

All games he's credited for TTD on his MobyGames profile. He's given credit for programming TTD, but so are Joe Booth and Nick Tuckett. More information on his career can be found on his website (the first external link) where he discusses his development history.
Joe Booth was responsible for code to make the Windows version of TTD - not actual programming of the game.--86.172.16.51 (talk) 15:32, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
As for citing OpenTTD, Wikipedia can't cite itself. — Frecklefoot | Talk 15:34, 7 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Footballer

edit

An anonymous user, 80.176.159.114 completely deleted the text of the article and replaced it with information about a footballer. Just FYI, this is completely the wrong way to create a new article. The correct action to take is to create a new article with some distingusing text after the name to distinguish it from the existing article. I moved the text to the article Chris Sawyer (footballer), where it belonged in the first place. Just FYI... — Frecklefoot | Talk 15:34, 7 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Andrew22k, we haven't heard from the man since Chris Sawyer's Locomotion was released. TheMasterSwordsman (talk) 23:22, 20 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
I believe he has retired from creating video games —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hax0rman101 (talkcontribs) 07:07, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Photograph

edit

I think a photograph of him should be added to the article. I found two on the internet already which are: http://www.mobygames.com/developer/shots/developerId,788/ http://http://www.tycoonplanet.com/images/chris_sawyer.jpg What does everyone else think, are there any other photos? —Preceding unsigned comment added by GACJ (talkcontribs) 21:00, 18 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

The url to tycoonplanet is invalid, and when fixed, is a deadlink. The image can be accessed on archival websites: https://web.archive.org/web/20070807004555/http://www.tycoonplanet.com/images/chris_sawyer.jpg

Date of Birth

edit

Can't help but notice that Sawyers date of birth isn't included in the article. I'd do it myself, but I can't find it.

(Grillspyd (talk) 12:32, 9 April 2008 (UTC))Reply

That's probably why it's not included in the article. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 15:20, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Someone added 28 November 1975 as his DOB, but that would make him eight years old when he first entered the game industry which seems unlikely. A Wired.co.uk biography of him (http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2013-09/20/chris-sawyer-transport-tycoon) has him starting development in the 1980s after graduating from university, which also seems unlikely for an eight year old . I have seen many other sites indicate that he was born on 1 January 1961. 1961 seems more likely as a birth year, but I can't find a reliable source to use. Some of them include: http://www.spokeo.com/Chris+Sawyer+1, http://www.liquisearch.com/what_is_chris_sawyer, http://net-worths.org/net-worth/chris-sawyer-net-worth/, and other language wikipedias: https://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Sawyer, and https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_SawyerGonknet (talk) 16:38, 21 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

No photo?

edit

I believe someone requested a photo of Chris Sawyer be added of him. I know of a few (that weren't from any press conferences, and if there was an original article it came from it's down by now, I've already backtracked it).

I'll go ahead and add it myself, and if I can find his date of birth, I'll add that too, (that is if someone didn't already beat me to the job). Figured I'd fill some requests in, since I own a site on simulation games and I need to contribute elsewhere. Chris Sawyer was a great guy, eh? (off topic)

Anyway, I'll add that stuff, guys. Shouldn't be that difficult to backtrack the image either.

The only photo we could use would have to be a copyright-free one. They're hard to come by; that's why there's no photo with this article (or on Wikipedia in general). There are two on MobyGames, which this article links to. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 14:08, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
