It crosses my mind that MP Maureen Colquhoun effectively announced her lesbianism in 1976, and this fact is overlooked when Chris Smith is described as the first openly gay MP. --Dovea 13:06, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

- He may have been the first to voluntarily come out, I think Maureen Colquhoun was effectively outed by the press, as in a sense was Jeremy Thorpe, but my memories are hazy. PatGallacher (talk) 14:18, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
