Haji Abdul Ghaffar: however w/rgrd to his conversion its a hard to distinguish between his passion for the orient, immense scientific inquisitiveness and religious convictions. when he returned to the netherlands he broke off his relation with his muslim wifes and married a christian dutch woman. --KARL RAN (talk) 11:58, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
Hurgronje's associates
editSome Arabs served in Islamic clerical positions under the Dutch colonial administration, working with the Dutch government as Grand Muftis or in other capacities.
Usman bin Yahya 1822-1914 was the Grand Mufti of the Dutch East Indies, based in Batavia. He was an Arab Indonesian of Hadhrami descent and worked with the Dutch colonial authorities like Hurgronje, advising them on Islamic matters. He printed lithographed books at his own press in Batavia.
