Name of article

edit

The main author contacted me on my talk page about this article's naming. It is more concise than the one used in the 20th century flood article, which is a plus. Referencing a religious holiday is a zero...not a plus nor a minus, but be aware that people might challenge it. As long as the flood is not referred to any other way/name by a slew of search results, this name is as good as any other, in my opinion. The two December 1964 floods on the century flood page have been merged, since they do seem to be one and the same. Thegreatdr (talk) 04:56, 1 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

more on NW California?

edit

I would like to see more on nw california, specifically the effects on Humboldt and Del Norte counties. Many small towns in the Eel River valley were wiped off the map, and the area was isolated from the rest of the world for quite some time, as all roads leading out of the region were destroyed.PhilD86 (talk) 10:47, 20 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Feel free to add that information to the article. I created the article and I'm from Oregon, so that's what I mostly focused on. Please be sure to use cited information from reliable sources. Since this happened a long time ago (in Internet years), it may be hard to find sources on the web, but I'm sure there was a great deal of coverage in local, regional, and national press at the time, which can be found using library newspaper archive databases (not to mention microfilm). I probably won't get around to expanding the article any time soon, but if you find the name of a source (via Google news search, for example) that you can't get the full text on for free, I may be able to look it up for you. Let me know. Valfontis (talk) 19:27, 20 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Portland Corps has a great photoset of CC-BY images from the flood, which I'm working on transferring to Commons. MB298 (talk) 20:07, 6 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
