Why was this moved? Almost every other church in Category:Churches in Toronto uses parentheses, and this is also the standard Wikipedia format. - SimonP 00:14, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Church of St. Aidan (Toronto)Church of St. Aidan – Disambiguation is not necessary as there is only one article under this name. There are other similarly named churches but they are listed as "St. Aidan's Church (place)". Can't do it myself because of an existing redirect at the destination. – Ivanvector (talk) 21:43, 31 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 23:37, 31 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose: many churches across the Christian world are dedicated to St.Aidan. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 23:37, 31 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Support as requester. Thanks for bringing this here, I assumed the move would be uncontroversial. I'm sure there are many, many churches dedicated to St. Aidan, but we only have one article for a church called "Church of St. Aidan", thus the parenthetical disambiguator is not necessary, per WP:PRECISE. All of the others are "St. Aidan's Church" and are appropriately disambiguated. Unless there's another Church of St. Aidan which is about to have an article written about it, we should drop the parenthesis. Users who come here looking for one of the other churches are redirected to the St. Aidan's Church dab page via the hatnote here. Ivanvector (talk) 00:24, 1 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
User:Ivanvector, can I ask were you aware of St. Aidan's Church dab with St Aidan's Church, Billinge, St Aidan's Church, Leeds, St. Aidan's Church, Basford, St Aidan's Church, Bamburgh, St Aidan's Church, Caythorpe when you submitted this RM? In ictu oculi (talk) 01:42, 1 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
Yes, of course, I mentioned that in the nomination statement. There are many "St. Aidan's Church" articles, all in the UK, but only one "Church of St. Aidan" article, in Canada. It's also listed on the same dab page, and for that matter the current Church of St. Aidan is a redirect to that dab page as well. Ivanvector (talk) 15:28, 1 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
