Spelling the name of the city
edit- Why redirected from Chigirin to Chyhyryn? In English correctly Chigirin. See, for example, this link [1]
- "Chyhyryn" - Romanian way of writing [citation needed].
- "Chyhyryn" - Ukrainian way of writing. The English Wikipedia article should be called "Chigirin"
Article in The Columbia Encyclopedia called Chigirin:[2]

- May I suggest you learn Ukrainian? Чигирин (Chyhyryn) is the correct way to spell the city's name, not to mention the official one. --ddima/talk 21:11, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
- These are crazy Ukrainian options of a transliteration. Transliterations are most not too that a transcription. Many words of Ukrainian have appeared together with the Russian words. The small difference in pronunciation was never the cause to consider them different words. The Russian letter "И" (/i/) has been chosen in Ukrainian as replacement of the Russian letter "Ы" (/ɪ/) because a huge number of the words of Russian which are written through "И", coincide on writing with the Ukrainian words, but are read through / ɪ/. I.e. there was a certain number of words, written through "Ы", but they have decided that it doesn't make sense to use different letters for the same sound. It is absolutely wrong to use in a transliteration for all words the letter "Y" instead of "И". In most cases the letter "I" has to be used. Too most concerns a letter Є which in a transliteration registers as YE that is also a mistake (as a result the Russian name "АЛЕКСЕЙ" in a normal transliteration looks as ALEXEY, and in Ukrainian - as ALYEXYEY as not the Russian original, but the Ukrainian substitute "AЛЄКСЄЙ" undertakes). Too most concerns a letter "G" which is transliterated through "H" though actually correct transliteration - "G", and a practical transcription - "GH".
The city is called CHIGIRIN. --Nicolay Sidorov (talk) 08:39, 18 April 2018 (UTC)
