Gaon rebrand to Circle
editSince the KMCA has rebranded Gaon to Circle Chart, when will we start moving related pages to the new name? The Gaon Chart Awards are now the Circle Chart Awards. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 03:56, 7 July 2022 (UTC)
- I suppose whenever somebody commits time to rewriting the articles to reflect the new branding. I don't think they should be moved until then, in their current form, as it's too outdated with all the references still being to Gaon chart, Gaon awards and so on. For the time being perhaps WP:COMMONNAME applies, as they have been the Gaon charts for 12 years, and some users may still be confused about external talk of the "Circle Chart" and search Wikipedia for the answer. - Thanks -ink&fables for rewriting the page. Much appreciated. Ss112 07:29, 8 July 2022 (UTC)
Retail chart
editDoes anyone know when exactly the Retail chart was introduced? All I can find was that it was in 2019, but I don't remember anything other than that. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 21:52, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Carlobunnie: Same here, earliest reference in Naver is this article covering MOTSP release. According to AllKpop it was launched on 18/2/2019, but I couldn't find anything from a reliable source. - Ïvana (talk) 00:16, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- I've been hunting thru Gaon archives all evening and just got this pop-up archive that the chart was running on a trial basis from Feb 18–March 3, 2019, after I opened a homepage archive dated Feb 20. The Gaon homepage archive dd March 4, 2019 shows 'NEW Retail Albums Chart' in the Music Charts drop down menu, so I guess that solves it. I couldn't find any official announcement about the actual launch of the chart otherwise, save for ones posted after the fact about data errors/fixes (example). -- Carlobunnie (talk) 01:55, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- edit: I was wondering if it could/should be mentioned in the 2nd pgraph of the History section? -- Carlobunnie (talk) 01:57, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- Ooh nice find. Yeah I think it should be mentioned. I don't know if these sources are good enough but considering that there's nothing else... I'm surprised that all of this is so hard to find. Was there no official announcement at all? I remember it switched from Gaon to Circle out of the blue. - Ïvana (talk) 02:20, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- Checked every single annoucement posted between Jan and June 2019 and not a single thing except for that popup I linked. The article doesn't rely heavily on primary sources so using one for this should be fine. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 18:30, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
