Circuit map
editWho's up for drawing one? I would ... but I'm useless at all things artistic. I figure we'll need one soon before people start uploading the image from the Statesman in place of the empty field. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 06:51, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
British vs. American English
editMay I ask why this article is written in British over American since this article is about a track in the United States?--Daytona 500 22:35, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- Other than a few dates in DMY format, I'm not sure what's particularly British about it? Spyder_Monkey (Talk) 20:16, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- Indeed. I think the intention is that it should be written in American English (note that distances are expressed in miles first, then km). DH85868993 (talk) 20:26, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- I note a few British spellings ("organisers," "modelled," various others) and I agree with "Nascarking" that those ought to be changed to American spellings. Some people who edit Wikipedia articles are really hard-core anti-American when it comes to language and spelling and a few of them have tried to change the measurements to put kilometres before miles; one of them argued that the Circuit of the Americas is being constructed as an F1 and MotoGP venue and those series use metric measurements, so this article should as well. I think that's bollocks and that the standard WP:ENGVAR principles ought to apply, meaning that because this article is about a subject that is primarily American (an auto-racing facility located in the United States), American English ought to prevail. In other words, it's not an article about a specific race, or a specific racing series, or whatever, and I'd have no problem with the concept of putting kilometres first in an article about the US Grand Prix since the official race distance uses kilometres. But this article is more generalized. Who's to say NASCAR might not run in Austin someday, for instance? Bottom line, it's an article about an American topic and American English should prevail. 1995hoo (talk) 14:18, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
- I've changed "organisers" to "organizers" and "modelled" to "modeled". Feel free to change any others you see. DH85868993 (talk) 01:23, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- I've gone through and fixed a few more; I also corrected some overall sloppy writing and poor grammar. 1995hoo (talk) 16:24, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

The use of British English is my doing; I'm Australian, so that's the way I'm used to writing. Feel free to Americanise it if you think it's necessary, though I would argue that because CotA is being used for a racing series that uses metric as its official measurement, metric - rather than Imperial - should be used. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 07:15, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
- The catch is that it's used by multiple series, and it's located in a non-metric country. - The Bushranger One ping only 19:16, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
Configuration
editThe article says that the circuit is more physically demanding because it's an anti-clockwise one, giving it more left-hand turns than right. How is this more physically demanding? If it is, indeed, that then a short explanation is needed in the article; otherwise that statement should be amended or removed. Bazza (talk) 08:36, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
- It's considered more physically demanding for F1 drivers because the majority of tracks run in Formula One are clockwise circuits, thus making the muscles on the left side of the driver's neck stronger and better able to support the lateral G-loadings in the corners. rdfox 76 (talk) 04:11, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks. I've added that explanation to the article. Feel free to adjust. Bazza (talk) 13:16, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
Other Motorsports
editThe track might be placed on the Indy Car calendar so shouldn't the article have a little more mention about other race series held there instead of just Formula One. Speedy Question Mark (talk) 22:45, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
Could someone fix the circuit map?
editThe circuit map contains two things that need revising, but I don't have a good way to edit the image. First, the person who created it ignored WP:ENGVAR and used the strange French style of having a comma as the decimal point. That should be changed to use a period. Second, the abbreviation "km" is incorrectly written as "Km" (uppercase "K"). Can someone correct these things? 1995hoo (talk) 14:56, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

editI went through and changed it throughout the entire article a while back and then saw it was changed back. I am 100% positive that it should be "Circuit of The Americas." 72.48.143.68 (talk) 18:51, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

New record?
editFormula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton set a new lap record for this track today, but I'm not sure if it counts, because it was in qualifying, not during the actual race. Does it? Nosecohn (talk) 02:54, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
- It counts for the "Outright Circuit Record" but not for the "Race lap record". The article has been updated accordingly. DH85868993 (talk) 10:38, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
What City is Circuit of the Americas in?
editThe Circuit of the Americas is NOT in Austin, TX. It is technically in Elroy, TX, an unincorporated town surrounded by Del Valle, TX. Please quit changing it because of incorrect information on their websites. http://propaccess.traviscad.org/clientdb/Property.aspx?cid=1&prop_id=741051 — Preceding unsigned comment added by AndersLindergaard (talk • contribs) 03:02, 23 October 2018 (UTC)
- As AndersLindergaard showed above, the circuit is located in Elroy, TX, not Austin, TX. It's a small distinction but Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and to a bigger extent Circuit Paul Ricard follow the same principle of citing the exact location of the circuit, not the one that is likely to be most associated with the track. Track CSVs with the GPS coordinates to be used in map building SW--suitable here?
editI know of an open source resource for track CSV file with the GPS coordinates. I think this should be part either of this page or WikiData, but I'm not sure exactly how or if I should to proceed as I'm fairly new to Wiki. ArtemisXLVII (talk) 13:42, 1 September 2020 (UTC)
- @ArtemisXLVII: I'm afraid I don't know anything about CSV, let alone editing with CSV (I'm not even sure that makes sense). Anyway, I think that the best place to ask is at the WP:TEAHOUSE - which has better traffic than here and editors who know what they are talking about. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Verstappen new record?
editWhy is Verstappen's 1:32.910 counted as a race lap record when he set it during qualifying? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.105.194.55 (talk) 08:39, 27 October 2021 (UTC)
Page Events on COTA
editI think that the major events should only have the race wiki page like the United States Grand Prix or the Texas Grand Prix, the minor events or minor former events shouldn't have one since it's not of importance. - Rodrigo1198 (talk) 23:49, 31 December 2021 (UTC)Rodrigo1198 (talk) 17:49, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
Moved Former/Minor Events to a New Section.
editCircuit of the Americas has too many former events that a section was needed. It made the infobox long and very confusing to read the events. I moved Minor Events as well they served no purpose on the major events and they are more than 5 minor events, I added a new section for Minor Events. Rodrigo1198 (talk) 20:46, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
Record lap times
editThe record lap times are described to be acclompished on the Grand Prix Circut Layout. But some of the records are set on different, shorter track layouts. For example the Pirelli World Challenge GT drives a 2.3 Miles long variant of the course according to the linked source. Therefore the times are not compareable and should be removed from the list. Also Porsche Carrera Cup 2013 and 2013 Austin 400 drove a different layout. 80.187.126.44 (talk) 09:43, 23 October 2023 (UTC)
