Talk:City Life (video game)

There are a lot of external links appearing in this article which is good but to help wikipedia please make sure before adding any more they are relevant and useful to the article and are not just site promotion. This is to avoid what happened a while ago with the SimCity 4 article in which there had to be a major clear up of external links due to a spam fest. Compromise 22:04, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I just added some stuff about the classes. I'm a little vague on how to attract higher classes, because I don't remember the exact game mechanics. I probably provided too much detail about how to play the game anyway. The point I basically wanted to get across was "There are many classes, each class likes a few others but hates most of them, and most of the game is about preventing class warfare in your city while still keeping everyone close enough together to let your city function as a whole."

Ambiguous reference to SimCity

edit

At the end of the The Classes section, there was a paragraph which looked as if it was comparing City Life to the game SimCity. However, this was not stated, and was, in any case, probably slightly biased. I have altered the paragraph concerned so as to correct this situation. However, it seems out of place. Perhaps someone else might be able to improve on it.--88.105.149.14 19:50, 23 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Starforce Copy Protection

edit

Perhaps it should be mentioned that the game lost out on some potential players due to Starforce malware being utilized for this title. Appanently the game also does not work on computers with "integrated" graphics cards, which rules out most over-the-counter home PCs, although I am not sure if it does not work because of Starforce or some other deficiency.

Unless you can source that opinion from a reliable source, no it shouldn't.--Crossmr 01:15, 23 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Is this site reliable for use with the article? 69.182.86.27 15:28, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

In my view it's important that all PC game articles indicate which copy protection (if any) is in use. This though is a view of a consumer - the developers/publishers seem to want to keep this sort of thing hidden and pretend to the customers that copy-protection is completely benign and doesn't need mentioning.Djp (talk) 07:06, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Trivia Sect?

edit

It should be mentioned that the Empire State Building can be seen in the City Life logo ev en though the game does not have it. 71.249.46.193 22:47, 4 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Future edition

edit

Should the "future game" tag be removed, since the game is available for download now? I feel it should be, since you could consider it a "release". JuWiki 01:00, 4 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Startup Problems

edit

Last I checked there was not a version of Windows Media Center entitled "Windows Media Center XP." I would have to say your information obviously did not come from a formal source. 68.115.34.227 21:17, 4 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

There is a Windows XP Media Center. I was using it two weeks ago before upgrading to Vista. --Arad 15:12, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Running Vista and City Life 2008. Have yet to encounter a problem. Changing the article accordingly. 66.214.244.188 (talk) 05:20, 9 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Price

edit

I bought this the other day for £1.98 (UK). That's a hell of a price drop considering it only came out last year. And it was in a proper shop, not a black market copy or anything. Michaelritchie200 13:39, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cycle error

edit

"It also features different time of the day: day, dawn, dusk and night but they should be selected by the player and do not have a cycle like SimCity 4." this is untrue since i have the game. The game does cycle trough the day without haveing the user to switch it. You can do this by clicking on the current cycle on the panel. The highlighted cycle will return to dull and the game will go through the cycle according to the time. 71.247.128.235 00:57, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re-direct from Cities Unlimited

edit

I have altered the re-direct from the above location so it points straight to the correct section of this article - note that if you change the title of the section "Cities Unlimited" the re-direct will also need to be changed. Cities Unlimited will potentially need its own article but not yet, given how little is known about this new game, even the title is not confirmed. Camaron1 | Chris 16:27, 27 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hardware problems

edit

When the game loads and crashes before reaching 100%, that is a hardware problem caused by a non-compatible video card, I know so because I just got a new video card that rectified that problem. Also, Monte Cristo released a patch for compatibility with Vista on their website.-Uagehry456talk 07:50, 3 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:City Life Day Skyline.jpg

Image:City Life Day Skyline.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. 2008 Section

edit

It would appear that the info about the 2008 release is incorrect, the release is not an expansion pack, it is a stand alone game --86.136.145.63 (talk) 19:38, 23 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it is in fact a stand-alone release. I think gamespot is a reliable source on this. [1]. Does anyone know if this one will have Star Force malware as well? pjh3000 (talk) 02:11, 25 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Does this then mean that it includes everything from the original release and subsequent expansion? I think the article needs to state more clearly whether this is a stand alone expansion, or simply the ultimate version of the game, the updated version of the original.58.106.111.125 (talk) 05:41, 15 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

City Life 2008=Cities XL 2011?

edit

In City Life 2008, most of the buildings in Cities XL 2011 are there. --TZLNCTV (talk) 22:35, 12 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

The City Life and XL series of games are separate, even if they share a few assets because they were both made by the same developer, they are not the same game.

And I'll just add this here because this is the kind of crap that keeps me from fully participating in the Wikipedia community, but Focus Home Interactive did NOT publish this game, Paradox Interactive did, it's apparent some anti-Cities:XXL trolls are making edits to this page. 24.2.101.159 (talk) 22:42, 18 February 2015 (UTC)NunyaReply
