Talk:City of Gold Coast

list of suburbs and localities

edit

This list is very out of date and doesn't match the navbox either. However, it is hard to add the missing ones without a clear insight into the purpose of the current 4 column presentation. Is there any basis for the 4 lists here? In particular, the "pre and post 1994" suburbs, or suburbs-vs-localities. If there is a common way of organising the suburbs/localities by region (e.g. by the Gold Coast City Council or similar), it seems reasonable to mimic that here and and in the navbox, but otherwise wouldn't a straightforward alphabetic list be more useful to the reader? Title

edit

If its name is "City of Gold Coast", shouldn't that be the title? Other Australian municipalities whose name is "City of ..." are at that title - David Gerard (talk) 13:37, 22 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

We have this issue with a number of City of XX and Shire of XX. It's one of those official names vs common name tensions. There's a redirect for the other name so I don't think any reader will be left unable to find the article. I agree that the difference between the article title and the name in the lede para and infobox is a little jarring. Put me down as "don't strongly care either way". Notable Personnel Section

edit

We all know that a person who is charged with a criminal offence is presumed innocent until proven guilty according to law. The same has to be given to the Division 7 Councilor, Ryan Bayldon-Lumsden. Therefore, I have removed his name from the Notable Personnel section of this wiki. If he is proven to have done the crime then his name can be added back to that section. I have to disagree, Ryan was the Gold Coast's youngest Councilor and contributed significantly to the community during his time in the role. Whilst his case surrounding the charge is ongoing it has generated an enormous amount of media attention, particularly around his suspension as Councilor and re-election attempt.
He is without a doubt a notable individual, and an innocent or guilty verdict will not be the determining factor in regard to his notability.
I do believe the wording of previous edits was poor, so rather than reverting what was removed I will instead put additional details in the section, may also add additional notable people when I have the time. BA Buggs (talk) 22:00, 11 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have to agree that Ryan Bayldon-Lumsden does not seem to have a reason to be listed here. Indeed, it is even questionable as to whether he should have an article at all. As per Wikipedia:POLITICIAN, local government council members are not automatically notable under Wikipedia polies (unlike state/federal members who are). Even his possible involvement in a crime may not be sufficient for notability for an article, see Wikipedia:CRIME, as he is not already noteworthy and that he is a living person who has not been proven guilty. So, even having an article is somewhat dubious. However, just to confine the discussion to this article, lists of people in articles have to meet the criteria for Wikipedia:LISTBIO which relates to relevance to this article. There have been many council members and staff of the Gold Coast City Council over the years. Reading RBL's article does not suggest any achievements wrt to the city so far. I would have thought more appropriate people to include in this list might be Bruce Small and Tom Tate (who, whether you love them or loathe them) did significantly influence the city.
