"Industry" or "City of Industry"?
editI question the current title of this article, though not quite enough to propose a move yet. Though I don't live in California, I've never heard of this place being called anything other than "City of Industry" outside of Wikipedia. In particular, the standard blurb on Newegg press releases (example) says it "is headquartered in City of Industry, California" (even though its mailing address is in Whittier); IIRC most business addresses also read "City of Industry, CA" (*not* "Industry"). Ordinarily WP:COMMON would require stripping "City of" from a city's name; but I would argue this is an exception that defines the rule, much like it's needed on City of London (and City of London Corporation) to disambig "the City" from metropolitan London. (The latter is particularly apropos since the City of London, like the City of Industry, has far more businesses--and workers--than actual residents.) Indeed, the small number of actual residents even further suggests "City of" is best treated as part of the community's proper name, and NOT merely a legal title. Could someone please justify WHY it should be just plain "Industry"??? --RBBrittain (talk) 23:35, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
- When I lived in Los Angeles County, I consistently heard it called the City of Industry, and assumed it was so called to avoid confusion with the common noun. —Tamfang (talk) 07:10, 2 July 2017 (UTC)
- The city's website (https://www.cityofindustry.org) and all of its official letterhead uses "City of Industry". I was born and raised in the San Gabriel Valley and have had clients throughout the City of Industry, and it's never been referred to as "Industry". - Acwan93 (talk) 16:20, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

Industry, California → City of Industry, California – more WP:RECOGNIZABLE as "City of Industry, California". Prisencolin (talk) 18:25, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
- agree - As a southern California resident, I agree that this is an exception to the common guideline especially since this is common word that needs to be prepended to be understood. There were no replies to the comment above in 2013 so it seems fairly uncontroversial. I am not sure many would instantly understand the location of the Sheriff's Industry Station. - Support per nominator. Practically every time there's a news story on this place, it's called "City of Industry". Shortened titles of place names can become the common name, but this place sure isn't Ventura. Nohomersryan (talk) 01:13, 24 July 2016 (UTC)
