The result of the move request was: moved to Civil Aviation Organization (Iran). Primefac (talk) 00:17, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
Iran Civil Aviation Organization → Civil Aviation Organization of Iran – This was requested by User:Magnovvig at [1]. Indeed I can't move the page either. User:Mjroots applied indefinite move protection in 2011. On the English website at the top it reads "I.R. Iran Civil Aviation Organization" but in the text I see "The Civil Aviation Organization of Islamic Republic of Iran". Personally I don't care too much, I'm only here because Magnovvig used the wrong template. (I was just moving files..) — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 09:55, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
- @4nn1l2: Perhaps you have an opinion. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 18:09, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
- The original Persian name seems to be just "Civil Aviation Organization". However, that could be ambiguous on enwp understandably. "Iran Civil Aviation Organization" seems grammatically wrong to me. My first choice is "Civil Aviation Organization of Iran" which eliminates the redundant parts (i.e. the Islamic Republic). The official English translation seems grammatically wrong to me either. I think the correct English translation would be "Civil Aviation Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran", in which the has been omitted. Another option would be "Iranian Civil Aviation Organization". Anyway, don't concentrate too much on the English website of the organization. Just pick the most appropriate one. Do not expect Iraninan organizations (including their websites) to follow a manual of style strictly and systematically. 4nn1l2 (talk) 18:40, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
- Move to Civil Aviation Organization (Iran). This is how we generally disambiguate ambiguous organisations which don't actually include the name of the country in their title. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:35, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
- Move to Civil Aviation Organization (Iran) per Necrothesp and general convention in Category:Civil aviation authorities in Asia — Amakuru (talk) 12:24, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Necrothesp and Amakuru: On pages like The Left, Category:Foreign ministers and Centre Party that seems indeed the convention, but on National aviation authority#List of civil aviation authorities it doesn't appear to be. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 16:26, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
- True, but a lot of the entries on that page seem to actually be redirects. For example Civil Aviation Authority of the Czech Republic, which points to Civil Aviation Authority (Czech Republic). Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 16:57, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
- It's actually the convention everywhere on Wikipedia. A minority of articles not sticking to it (often because the creators didn't know it was the convention) doesn't really prove anything. Look at the subcats of Category:Civil aviation authorities by continent rather than the list for the actual names that have been used. The majority are probably correct. -- Necrothesp (talk) 22:14, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
- I'm not looking to prove anything. I wanted to be sure that the proposed move would be correct, and I believe it is. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 22:54, 1 September 2020 (UTC)
- Question: should Civil Aviation Organization be a redirect to this article or be a disambig page? I can't find any other countries that have an organization called "Civil Aviation Organization".VR talk 13:41, 1 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Vice regent: took care of that.. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 22:50, 1 September 2020 (UTC)
- Alexis Jazz Thanks. Wouldn't Civil Aviation Organization be a simpler name? VR talk 23:09, 1 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Vice regent: as the International Civil Aviation Organization is better known (about 30 times more page views), I think it's appropriate for Civil Aviation Organization to remain a redirect to the International Civil Aviation Organization. A reader who enters merely "Civil Aviation Organization" is more likely to be looking for the international organization. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 23:23, 1 September 2020 (UTC)
- Alexis Jazz, makes sense. VR talk 23:26, 1 September 2020 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: not moved. As highlighted in the discussion, there is a lack of accessible evidence at the moment that there is a change in the name of the organisation. This move discussion can be revisited when there are evidence that can be presented. (closed by non-admin page mover) – robertsky (talk) 18:33, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
Civil Aviation Organization (Iran) → Civil Aviation Authority (Iran) – The article already refers to the organization as Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) not Civil Aviation Organization (CAO). Either the article should be moved or all references to CAA should be changed to CAO. RisingTzar (talk) 20:18, 9 January 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose. The text of the article was changed by an IP a week ago. It previously did call it the Civil Aviation Organization. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:31, 11 January 2023 (UTC)
- Well, I just realized that the official website is in fact https://en.caa.gov.ir/ so it does seem like there is merit to the IP edit RisingTzar (talk) 22:01, 16 January 2023 (UTC)
- Google returns results for https://www.google.com/search?q=%22caa.gov.ir%22 and has indexed the site at some point but the URL doesn't load anymore. RisingTzar (talk) 22:04, 16 January 2023 (UTC)
- Exactly -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:36, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- Then why oppose when the official name appears to be CAA? Shouldn't the article title reflect that? RisingTzar (talk) 11:23, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- You're only going on an abbreviation on a website nobody can access! That's not much in the way of proof and not a good enough reason to change the title. You will see that Civil Aviation Organization and CAO also come up on that Google search. We need better proof than this. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:11, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
