That NA equation is easy to derive: The NA of the fiber is given by $n\sin \theta$. To get TIR on the wall, the angle isn't $\theta$ but the angle opposite $\theta$. The sine of that angle is the cosine of $\theta$ and so is equal to ${\sqrt {1-\sin ^{2}\theta }}$. Then plug and chug. —Ben FrantzDale (talk) 20:42, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
