Guild hall
editIn MMORPG games, guilds sometimes can have guild halls.
- So? In some other MMORPGs any player can have a house or other building. It does not define a clan.
Merged Article
editI merged Gaming community with this article, as all its content contained the same info, but less of it, and a bunch of clan-specific links. Icemotoboy (talk) 23:57, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
- These was merged the wrong way. Clans (mostly FPS and some RTS) and Guilds (mostly MMORPG and variety of other RPGs) almost unfailingly referring themselves Gaming Communities, or Online Gaming Communities. In addition there are Communities that refuse either label taking other less used group terms, or just calling to themselves as just Gaming Communities. To make this a real article there needs to be more general term and then make the distinctions and contrast in the article. Despyria (talk) 22:24, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
Phrasing of FPS section
editThis might just be me, but I feel this section suggests that the concept of a clan/guild originated in FPS gaming. Not that I claim to have the answer as to when this concept began, but it would most certainly not have begun in a genre that only came to Internet connectivity in the 1990s, versus games with online pedigrees stretching back into the 1970s. Still, this might just be me reading too much into the phrasing. 74.109.121.154 (talk) 00:04, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
- To add a source to this, Computer Gaming World issue #29 (June/July 1986) has an article by Patricia Fitzgibbons about CompuServe's proto-MMORPG "Island of Kesmai" that discusses how players form teams with names like "The Adventurer's Guild" and then append the initials of that name to the end of their character's handle, pretty much exactly how people began doing it in FPSs later. 74.109.121.154 (talk) 17:46, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
guilds: where to start your research
editI recommend learning more about Elder Scrolls guilds and also games similar to this style in general. https://www.genesismud.org/clubs.php is a great place to learn about being a guild member. Graysphere49 (talk) 14:39, 12 October 2018 (UTC)
