Move article to Clan Shaw of Tordarroch

edit

I think the article should be moved to Clan Shaw of Tordarroch.--Celtus (talk) 10:39, 20 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Done, moved.--Celtus (talk) 04:09, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Why, based on what evidence, sorry I haven't been around for a while or I would have questioned this earlier, but unless you've got something to support the change of name, I think it should be undone. The only other reference I can find to this name links back to the Clan Shaw website. --GeorgeShaw (talk) 00:20, 30 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

No I'm going to undo it, it's just too annoying, very view other clans are named this way scottish_clan, and it breaks existing links. --GeorgeShaw (talk) 00:26, 30 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Check out the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs website. The clan name is listed Shaw of Tordarroch - clanpage -[1], listing of members - [2]. Also see: Way of Plean, George; Squire, Romilly (2000). Clans & Tartans. Glasgow: HarperCollins. ISBN 0-00-472501 8.{{cite book}}: CS1 maint: multiple names: authors list (link)

Ok, would have been useful to cite your referneces initially. Nevertheless changing the name can break any links, not sure it's such a good idea for a page that's been around a while. --80.195.161.143 (talk) 19:06, 8 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about that. Moving an article doesn't any break links, it only turns the former article into a redirect to the new one. Was there a broken link? An admin might have deleted it in error - dunno why anyone would do that though.--Celtus (talk) 05:16, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes I thought it should be ok, but the link on the main Scottish Clans page was broken, must admit still don't like the proposed change, but thats just me and not very NPOV —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.195.161.143 (talk) 22:49, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Still the standing council site is pretty specific.--Celtus (talk) 06:03, 10 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
I moved it back to Clan Shaw of Tordarroch.--Celtus (talk) 10:36, 23 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I wonder if it is some sort of distinction from the lowland Clan Schaw?--Celtus (talk) 07:37, 26 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

hi guys, em, isn't Schaw just an etymology, of the same name? my name is Shaw and I am lowlander, i skimmed the Schaw page, mmm seems very similar, ah well there's my to pennith. Dava4444 (talk) 02:17, 22 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Roman or Norman admiration ?

edit

I am a bit concerned about the section at the bottom of the article that has been added and is completely unsourced. Unsourced info can be removed from Wikipedia. The info seems to be verging on the idea that the clans were entirely Gaelic in that it says "The clan system was eradicated with a finality that only the Romans or Normans could admire". Many of the highland clans were or Norman origin. As this info is unsourced I might well remove it.QuintusPetillius (talk) 10:38, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Tartan?

edit

Shouldn't all clans' tartans be illustrated? The one plate shows a vague tartan, which could be Shaw with artistic license as the bar sinister is unapparent.174.18.6.30 (talk) 14:13, 5 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
