Non-notable band?
editHow could it be proposed that this is an article about a non-notable band? Their music has been released in most first world countries and enjoyed regular rotation on at least one Australian radio station - far beyond Brooklyn. Well they are pretty obscure, but the previous poster is correct in that they do meet the notability requirements.(24.62.126.170 (talk) 00:35, 13 May 2010 (UTC))
Why CYHSY is notable
editI've just removed a {{prod}} tag which calls the band "non notable". CYHSY meets the following criteria from Wikipedia:Notability (music):
- "Has been featured in multiple non-trivial published works in reliable and reputable media..."
- The band has been featured in Time Out New York ([2]), The Guardian ([3]), NME, Rolling Stone ([4]), and Pitchfork Media ([5], [6], [7], [8] [9], [10], [11], [12], [13], [14], [15]).
- "Has gone on an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one large or medium-sized country, reported in notable and verifiable sources."
- This article on Pitchfork details their international tour dates: in the U.S., the U.K., Ireland, Japan, Belgium, Germany, France, Holland, Italy, Spain and Texas.
- "Is frequently covered in publications devoted to a notable sub-culture."
- The indie world is consumed by them, of course.
They are also notable in that the story of their early success is emblematic of how some recent bands have risen to success via the internet without the aid of a record label. This was the subject of a short story on National Public Radio: [16]. They also played on The David Letterman Show.[17] Omphaloscope talk 01:18, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
link to t-shirt charity
editUser:Yellowbirdproject added a note about CYHSY's participation in a charity project. The project sounds very cool to me, but I don't think it's notable enough for inclusion here. This is an encyclopedia, not an index of all worthy endeavours. Omphaloscope talk 01:34, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- The band's involvement with the Yellow Bird Project, is completely intrinsic to them. They have a permanent link to their t-shirt design located in the shop section of their main website, and in addition they have spoke out in several blogs and interviews about their involvement with the project. Therefore, this meets the criteria for being a notable reference, and so I am adding this entry back onto their wikipedia page. (Chooser663 (talk) 10:31, 1 May 2008 (UTC))
