editWhy don't we redirect this article to Clostridium? Clostridia is just the plural, and Clostridium has more info. --Joelmills 23:47, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
The biological names don't follow the Latin directly. Clostridia is the formal name for a group that includes Clostridium, but also includes other similar bacteria, like heliobacteria. They aren't synonyms. Josh
- Wow, never knew that. My assumption would have been the same as Joelmills. You sure learn some stuff around here! Vilĉjo 00:35, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
Report that clostridia and actinobacteria ancestral to double-membrane prokaryotes
editA news item here reports that the clostridia and actinobacteria merged to form the double-membrane prokaryotes ancestral to cyanobacteria, and thence to the eukaryota. The paper is reported to be published on-line in the 20 Aug 2009 Nature. I am insufficiently expert to know if this should go into the article yet, but if confirmed it would make the hybrid organism an ancestor of all multi-cellular organisms. This stub completely lacks references, BTW; the Nature article might be a candidate. Wwheaton (talk) 15:01, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
