Removal of Danny Brown

edit

I've removed Danny Brown from "Rappers described as cloud rap" because his music isn't cloud rap. The interview cited doesn't describe his music as such either, he's just discussing the genre. —Spiegalr (talk) 17:38, 22 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Notability

edit

It's the wrong tag. Stub is more correct per:

https://www.bostonglobe.com/arts/2012/01/28/rocky-leads-cloud-rap-storm/Mu6XPuvnNvGAENtm5J4yNL/story.html http://www.highsnobiety.com/2015/06/25/cloud-rap-yung-lean-lil-b/ http://www.stereogum.com/1822852/the-immortal-soul-the-revival-of-soul-music-and-its-history-in-hip-hop-production/franchises/sounding-board/ http://www.factmag.com/2013/07/10/the-fact-dictionary-how-dubstep-juke-cloud-rap-and-many-more-got-their-names/ http://pitchfork.com/features/lists-and-guides/9908-the-50-best-rap-mixtapes-of-the-millennium/

I could go on, but a simple Google search or Google News search will tell you the tag is associated with a particular style or set of artists. --Aleccat 11:58, 5 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

List format for artists

edit

@Ilovetopaint: Some of the notable artists presented and cited only produce cloud rap music and don't necessarily perform it, so isn't it better to clarify in a paragraph format in opposed to a list? --Aleccat 07:02, 29 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

What is the difference...? --Ilovetopaint (talk) 07:56, 29 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
I would just think it'd be better to clarify that some of them are producers, and some of them perform cloud rap music. --Aleccat 16:02, 29 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
The general consensus is there should be clear criteria for including an article on a list. WP:LISTV Also, referencing each entry in the list is generally unnecessary if the criteria itself is referenced in the article that is linked to. Also, in general a reference should be a secondary source, not a video of a performance of said artist. As it stands now, the big list of links to Youtube videos makes it seem like this article is an attempt to promote the artist in question. --Klaun (talk) 20:12, 19 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

PP dispute?

edit

Are you kidding me? What disputes are there? Anons edit the list part of the article, wouldn't extended confirmed be far better? --Aleccat 03:46, 20 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

The recent problem is edit warring by Zxedvxbmnm, not IP editors. If we can get Zxedvxbmnm to communicate here then some forward movement might be made. Binksternet (talk) 04:01, 20 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Can somebody add a source for Lil Peep on the list? There is one on his page, but nobody has added it yet. Thanks. SuperLuigi22 (talk|contribs) 02:16, 21 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:04, 22 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Article name similar to SoundCloud rap

edit

There should be one of those sections that point to soundcloud rap aka mumble rap, as the name is extremely similar. — Preceding unsigned comment added by C0dd (talkcontribs) 01:27, 29 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Emo rap contradiction

edit

At the moment, there are two contradictory pieces of information in the infobox, each supported by a different source: Red Bull Music states that cloud rap "borrow[s] elements from … emo rap", while Highclouds lists "nostalgic cloud-rap influenced beats" as a characteristic of emo rap. The question is whether emo rap should be listed as a stylistic origin of cloud rap (per the former source) or as a derivative style (per the latter). At the moment, I am more inclined to favor the second option; from what I have read, articles about emo rap generally set the genre's mainstream breakthrough (mid- to late 2010s) later than those about cloud rap (early to mid-2010s). Any thoughts or suggestions? LifeofTau 07:13, 30 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

After four weeks with no response, I have gone forward and removed emo rap from the list of stylistic origins. LifeofTau 04:34, 2 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Earlier Instance of Cloud Rap?

edit

I think cLOUDDEAD should be included in this list, with their 2001 debut album. (Although the notion that Viper is the pioneer of cloud rap is excellent comedy) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.154.248.229 (talk) 03:26, 16 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Yes, cLOUDDEAD clearly pioneered the genre long before Viper and Lil B, and I don't know of anything earlier than Clouddead (album) that qualifies even slightly as cloud rap. Just a matter of finding a reliable source to credit. Disagree that Viper shouldn't be included, he was just as instrumental as Lil B in the development of the style, and is, as far as I know, the earliest instance of cloud rap in its full-fledged form as we know it today. Sourcing for artists

edit

I tried for a while to find sources for the artists section, but there are very few citable things I could find. I don't disagree with the unsourced assertions still on the page, but there needs to be something backing them up. PAPI I MISSED U (talk) 18:22, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
