the whole article has gone to crap. now more than ever, it's a PR biography. In need of an entire rewrite or a reversion. 71.238.122.144 (talk) 06:46, 18 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

dont merge

edit

i vote 'no',each member should have his own page with links to the band*(like the beatls)

I also vote to not merge. Seems to be enough info to merit a separate article.

This was a month ago, I'm removing the tag. Emmaneul (Talk) 01:14, 28 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

additional apperances

edit

clutch was on a 'viva la bam' episode, played a song, also was background music at his wedding.

check 'the chipmunks' wiki page

edit

there is a piece of trivia that could be expanded to this article, its about the song 'witchdoctor'(by the chipmunks creator)and the lyrics from 'Texan book of the dead' ohh-eee-ohh-ahhh-ahh-twing-twang-walla-walla-bing-bang'(this same line is ont the witchdoctor song) (4tildes,7/16/7)

Grinder?

edit

in reference to that thing about the calgary flames player's band. grinder is not a hockey position. i'm not changing it cause i suck at wiki. but that's full of crap. i played for 10 years, it's wrong —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.64.223.203 (talkcontribs)

I know nuts about hockey, but a little search[1] brings up a few mention of the term grinder used in hockey speak. It seems not so much a position but a style of play. I removed the sentence since it's not important to the article. --Dodo bird 07:15, 12 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Clutch has nothing to do with Darren McCarty's Band. Never has, never will ~~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.238.122.144 (talk) 06:40, 18 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Updated

edit

I updated the page, added the band infobox and cleaned up the tables and other info. My first wiki edit so I probably did some stuff wrong. Didn't really change much of the info that was already there, but someone needs to pad it out some more. Xep 07:40, 21 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I just did a basic rewrite to try to get the flow a little better while leaving all of the info intact, which I think I did. I'm a big fan so I resisted the urge to add in all kinds of details that may have appeared a bit like propaganda. So the obelisk has been rebuilt and the time has come to make my escape through a secret passageway.

Describing lyrics/music

edit

Personally I'd characterise a good proportion of their lyrics (the humorous ones) as "entertaining scifi/fantasy themed shaggy dog stories" 71.233.165.69 08:56, 8 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

The quote would count as fair use would it not? Xep 22:23, 10 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Please point out which parts you think are a copyright violation. I can't see any. Xep 22:30, 10 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Sourced the only possible copyright violation I can find. There should be no outstanding copyright issues. Changes can be seen at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clutch_(band)/Temp Cg2112 03:29, 16 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Stuph, one unreferenced quotation doesn't really warrant a copyvio tag, unless I'm missing something. Anyway, I moved the ref from the temp page to the main article, removed the template, and deleted the temp page. Nufy8 21:30, 16 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

general

edit

I removed all the nonsense about some of the Strange Cousins songs being played at this venue and in that city and replaced it with a blanket statement about the songs being played live before the album was recorded, since Clutch played pretty much all of them before going into the studio. The Kraken

edit

I've just changed the article, replacing "Greek Saga" to "Norse Saga" in regards to the "Release the Kraken" in the second paragraph of the Biography section. Its the second time I've had to change it... originally it said "Greek myth", so I changed it to "Norse Saga"... it had been changed back to "Greek Saga", so I've changed it to "Norse Saga" once more. The Kraken is a Norse myth, not Greek. Just thought I'd put a note here incase someone comes along and changes it to Greek again... people should know their mythology better. Malbolge 22:47, 5 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is kind of problematic, because while the Kraken may be a Norse myth, the rest of the lyrics are about Greek myth; they refer to such figures as Andromeda, Cepheus, and Cassiopeia. Perhaps a more general term would be preferable. Alternatively, saying "into Greek mythology" rather than "into the Greek myth" might avoid the implication that the Kraken is a Greek myth.
While the Kraken is indeed Norse, everything else in the entire song points to the Greek Myth of Perseus, from the other characters (Andromeda, Cepheus and Cassiopeia) to the monologe at the end about the Medusa. Useless is Perseus. While the song should be "Release the Ceto", Kraken is a creature that's better understood as "Big Sea Beast" by the general public, even pre-Pirates of the Carribean. Not to mention that "Release the Kraken" is a line from the movie Clash of the Titans. You can call it a mash between a Greek myth and a Norse saga if you're hellbent on mentioning the Norse, but it's far more Greek than Scandinavian.
Or we could just switch the reference to a different song. —Triskaideka 14:43, 14 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Clutchlogo.jpg

edit

Image:Clutchlogo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Rewrite

edit

Big time rewrite needed me thinks. 9 albums in and the information is so limited and cluttered it's quite shocking. I'm sure there are plenty of Clutch fans out there who would be interested in this one.Gedmundo (talk) 02:04, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Jaden Adrastos Callaway

edit

Jaden Adrastos Callaway is currently listed as a past member of Clutch. Unless he did more than just fill in periodically or appear as a special guest, the listing is probably inaccurate. Does anyone know for sure? (By comparison, Mick Schauer is definitely a "past member" because he was involved full-time for two entire albums and the associated tours.) --DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 20:05, 15 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Decided to look into this a little more. On June 15 an IP-only editor added Callaway and said in the edit notes "According to an interview with MTV Niel Fallon stated Jaden Callaway (cousin) was breifly in the band when they first formed in Maryland." If this is true it is non-notable because it is not documented anywhere, not even at the official Clutch website. All that can be found via a simple web search of <"Jaden Adrastos Callaway" + "Clutch"> are a few recent social media posts saying Callaway was once in Clutch. If the interview with Fallon really happened, Callaway may have only been a start-up member for a few minutes about 21 years ago, but someone (probably himself) continues to talk about it in modern social media. Move on, sir. I am removing the name from the "past members" section. --DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 19:36, 26 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

If anyone happens to read this, the pattern detailed above has played out again with another momentary early member named Roger Smalls. His presence is a small piece of history, but anything else about him needs serious proof of notability. --DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 17:10, 22 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Genre: stoner rock

edit

As a band that has contributed 9 studio albums and 10 singles, and is classified under 6 distinct genres (hard rock, funk metal, blues rock, stoner rock, southern rock, and hardcore punk), I'd like to see a further, more-in-detail distinctions on which of their work are, let's say, stoner rock.

As far as I have understood, not all works of Clutch go under "stoner rock". Jayaguru-Shishya (talk) 18:43, 2 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

In other media

edit

If someone can find a reliable source other than a forum post, Clutch's song "Mercury" from Blast Tryant is used in the game APB:Reloaded. Just thought i'd put that out there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sir hobbes3 (talkcontribs) 03:04, 30 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Genre war

edit

Okay, this is just getting ridiculous. Someone please clean up this band's album articles. I keep trying, but I'm sick of every edit I make being instantly reverted.Ngk44 (talk) 13:53, 18 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Then learn how things work around here. For a start try sourcing. Robvanvee 05:57, 4 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
