I would rename this article to something like the 2023 Australian Gaza visas controversy. As it currently reads, it is not obvious that it is about Australia, the timing and that it is visas? thanks. Aszx5000 (talk) 10:39, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

That is similar to the names I originally had in mind — e.g. 2023 Coalition−Labor Gaza visas controversy. With regard to the timing, I think more specificity is unnecessary, given the existing level of disambiguation is sufficient: There was no such vitriolic debate in Australian politics during the previous wars in Gaza. On the point of using the term "visas", consider these hypothetical analogies: "Estonian Leningrad visas controversy", "Iraqi Tel-Aviv District visas controversy", "Italian Kashmir visas controversy".
Clearly, "Gaza" is not an apt demonym, as it similarly refers to a geographical territory. The issue concerns, as portrayed and discussed in the media, Palestinian residents of Gaza. "Coalition–Labor Palestinians visas controversy" is ambiguous and somewhat convoluted. And there exists no widely used demonym for residents of Gaza. (According to my knowledge, "Gazan" is used in almost none of the cited sources.) Y. Dongchen (talk) 06:36, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
