Cobbler → Cobbler (disambiguation) – Cobbler should redirect to Shoemaking, obvious primary topic which is why it is located at the top here Traumnovelle (talk) 22:58, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
OpposeCobblers don't make shoes. Andy Dingley (talk) 23:00, 12 September 2024 (UTC)- It is mentioned at the target in the lead. It should have it's own topic but it doesn't currently. Traumnovelle (talk) 23:05, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- Support On checking, we don't have an article for cobbler (shoes). In its absence (rather a shame, but it's unlikely anyone will write one in the forseeable future) then it might as well go to something near correct, like shoemaking. Andy Dingley (talk) 23:08, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- We already have this meaning formatted in a common meaning section at the top. Per WP:DPT, if we have a look at how the readers are reacting, at WikiNav for Cobbler we can see 1.3k incoming views, and only 435 identified clickstreams towards the proposed primary topic, which is just a third. That means two thirds of the readers saw this list, with this common meaning at the top, and did not proceed to read about that. We can see from the same stats that the food article gets significant interest, despite being sorted near the bottom (which I'll now fix), and some traffic also goes to a number of other topics. So, what's
obvious
to one person might not be obvious to the average reader - there doesn't seem to be a primary topic by usage. I don't see an argument about long-term significance, so it seems that we don't have a good reason to make changes. (Oppose) --Joy (talk) 10:45, 13 September 2024 (UTC) - Oppose the 2014 film has 10,184 views, the food has 9,863, the episode has 1,919, the mountain has 891, the software has 201 and the 1923 film has 55 compared with only 4,340 for Shoemaking. - Oppose per Joy and Crouch, Swale. There are 18 entries listed upon the Cobbler disambiguation page, with no indication that research into the profession under this term is of such proportion that it overwhelms the combined notability of the remaining 17 entries. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 04:17, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose There is no clear primary topic here. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 18:44, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose While the most common Nav is to Shoemaking, it is still less than a majority of the inbound. Followed by a significant amount of page views for other "cobblers" TiggerJay (talk) 04:17, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
