Pronunciation
editI have removed the reference to Cobh being pronounced as "cobe" - The "bh" in the Irish language derived from the lengthened b is pronounced as a "v" and the pronounciation of the town is "cove".Coolavokig 18:02, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
Added the Arts and Festivals Section because it was missing- although there is still lots missing Sneaklemming 03:50, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Neimhead - truth or legend?
editThere is no citation for the piece on Cobh history concerning Neimhead and his alleged early colonisation of the area. I could only find reference to this on the homepage of the Cobh & Harbour Chamber of Commerce but no historical work of any provenance. I therefore propose to add the words "according to legend" to the start of the paragraph. Coolavokig (talk) 10:41, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
Population of Cobh & Environs, as of Census 2006
editThe population of Cobh is 6,541, and that of its environs is 4,762. Here is a link to the census: [1]. I'm not sure where the inflated figures are coming from, but at any rate the most recent Census is where all the population-figures for Ireland come from. I would hope that this edit war about the town's population can be put to rest now. ConorBrady.ie (caint) 19:57, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
Rushbrooke Tennis Club
editRushbrooke Tennis Club has being in existance in Cobh for over 100 years and has produced players that have represented Ireland in International events at senior and underage level. They have 9 all weather courts and two grass courts that are in use seasonally.Tournaments are run regularly throughout the season and members compete in tournaments all over Munster during the summer season. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.45.158.94 (talk) 13:36, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
Irish Language Names
editThe article mentions that the town had "several Irish language names", but mentions none of them. Shouldn't it? Also, shouldn't there be an explanation as to why the town took on the nonsensical name "Cobh / An Cóbh" instead of one of the original Irish language names? — Preceding unsigned comment added by YoungAndFoolish (talk • contribs) 10:27, 14 June 2012

Anti Gallicon
editI have removed the following text:
The oldest recorded pub on the island is reputed to have been the "Anti Gallicon" situated in the Holy Ground, and apparently liable to flooding when the tide came in. Dating back to the 1780s, the pub was named after opponents of the French "Gallicon" faction who opposed the powers of the Pope.[citation needed]
Not only has there been no citation provided since 2008, but I cannot see any online evidence for this pub apart from copies of this article in various languages or Flickr spam tags. On top of that, its name is unlikely to be due to opposition to the religious doctrine of gallicanism when there was an explicit word for such opponents, namely ultramontanism, but more likely to be an opposition to France, as in the 18th century Anti-Gallican Society which met in pubs and sponsored a privateer. There is an example in Charlton in London. --Rumping (talk) 23:01, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

Source for when name was changed
editThe only source re above in piece until now was to the effect that the new "Irish Free State authorities" changed the name in 1920. There was no Irish Free State in 1920. So this is patently not a reliable source. I've deleted it but if someone knows and has a source, that would be a welcome contribution. Frenchmalawi (talk) 17:14, 13 August 2017 (UTC)
Add a link
editHello, I think we should add a link in the word Presbyterian, leading to a page about Presbyterianism. Just a thought. FoggyMemories (talk) 02:35, 6 October 2021 (UTC)
