leighton reversion
editnot sure why change was reverted. leighton joined in the 1st season as a 1st year. he switched to surgery in the 1st episode of 3rd season. how is that second and not third year? what prior episode was surgery switch mentioned? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C8:6001:4901:C1B2:42C4:5089:7408 (talk) 08:05, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
Character descriptions
editThere is one user who is insisting on maintaining outdated descriptions of roles within the series (Leanne as ER Residency Director instead of ER Director, Leighton as Attending instead of Residency Director, etc.) This user believes that adding three-to-four words explaining the characters new roles is "too in depth", and so the outdated information should remain. I'm just starting this discussion in order to state that I think this is incredibly stupid, and, as such, will continue to revert to the correct descriptions until this user has given a good enough reason, and a consensus has been reached, to maintain incorrect information. --Unframboise (talk) 18:51, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
(edit conflict). Another editor has made WP:INUNIVERSE updates to several chapter descriptions. He has been reverted, has not observed WP:BRD, and now stated he will edit war the point. The show has made several temporary changes to the characters' positions, and addition of these changes, rather than retaining the more general descriptions of the characters, describes them at a fixed point, requires regular updating, and does not follow the policy cited. --Drmargi (talk) 18:55, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
- I see the editor has now made it clear he will not work collaboratively, or toward WP:CONSENSUS. At least I can make an argument with flinging insults. --Drmargi (talk) 18:59, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
- As series pages are supposed to describe the series as a whole, character descriptions on series pages should describe the character in a general way that is valid for the whole series. They should not be about a character's current state by the last aired episode. As such, any character property that is changing through the series is better described in a more general way. Also they should be brief and avoid plot points (which goes into the plot section, here an episode table), per WP:TVCAST. –Dark Cocoa Frosting (talk) 19:26, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
- Exactly my point. The various changes in the character can be discussed in an article about the show's characters or about individual character articles. Moreover, we can't make assumptions about the permanence of change based on summaries of upcoming episodes, which are vague at best, per WP:CRYSTAL; what is WP:VERIFIABLE is that dialogue in the program has clearly stated Rorish and Leyton's positions are temporary until another character returns. This is the second time recently that this particular editor has used summaries of upcoming episodes to justify edits (the first, indicating a character would only be in a limited number of episodes, proved wrong with the current episode.) We need to describe these characters in a general way, not make constant tweaks and adjustments, and especially, not include plot points in their descriptions. --Drmargi (talk) 19:53, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
- The current description reads:
- "Marcia Gay Harden as Dr. Leanne Rorish, the director of Emergency Medicine at Angels'. Leanne previously served as ER Residency Director, and is known as "Daddy" by her current and former students. Her husband and son were killed after their car was hit by a drunk driver; this sometimes influences her medical decisions."
- Your description reads:
- "Marcia Gay Harden as Dr. Leanne Rorish, ER Residency Director, known as "Daddy" by her current and former students. Her husband and son were killed after their car was hit by a drunk driver; this sometimes influences her medical decisions."
- There is perhaps a ten word deviation here, with the first description (my description) reflecting accurately the series as a whole. Why are you so opposed to this change? --Unframboise (talk) 20:16, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
- A. You are cherry-picking. I reverted TO WP:STATUSQUO (not my version) the totality of your edit (at which time you should have initiated this discussion, something you persist in refusing to do), and need to address your whole edit. B. Your version erroneously ads a plot point, then assumes the position is permanent, and describes Rorish's temporary position, not who she is across the totality of the series. As such, it is a plot point, and it fails WP:INUNIVERSE. The same is true for the edits to Leyton and to other characters. Thus the revert. The burden is on you to gain consensus, another practice you persist in ignoring, to the degree you state you will edit war. --Drmargi (talk) 20:37, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
- I give up. You are resorting to personal attacks, harassment, bullying, and character assassination across Wikipedia, and it falls below the standard a senior editor should be held to. I do not persist in refusing to discuss, I started the discussion. Please stop. --Unframboise (talk) 21:39, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
- "I do not persist in refusing to discuss" Oh please. Should I remind you that you were at 3RR over Young's "supposed" departure? Drmargi acted in a prefossional matter, unlike you. Making accusations like "character assassination across Wikipedia" will get you nowhere and shows your character. So, if you want to accuse anybody of anything, you should look at yourself instead. - Please discuss the issue, not the editor. These personal remarks are now becoming a prolonged group attack. --Unframboise (talk) 22:29, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
MOS:TV requires that articles reflect the entire history of a series so the character listing should incorporate significant changes that have occurred during the series, presented in accordance with WP:FICTENSE. Because fiction is referred to in the present tense, it's always a good idea to refer to specific episodes if possible, or even seasons. "John Smith, portrayed by Fred Jones, is in medical school, training to be a doctor after losing both of his parents five years ago. During season two, he graduates and is employed at Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital. In "Ouch!" he suffers a needlestick injury while treating a patient and subsequently succumbs to AIDS in season 10." Anything that happens during the series should be written in the present tense but incidents that occurred before the series started can be referred to in past tense. The subject of how to treat character listings was only recently discussed at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Television#Character descriptions. --AussieLegend (✉) 07:13, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
- Updated as per your suggestions
- "Marcia Gay Harden as Dr. Leanne Rorish, the ER Residency Director at Angels', known to her current and former students as "Daddy". Her husband and son were killed after their car was hit by a drunk driver; this sometimes influences her medical decisions. In "Diagnosis of Exclusion" Leanne is promoted to Director of Emergency Medicine, following the death of Gina Perello."

LGBT
editThe article includes LGBT categories but the article does not make it clear that the category is applicable or relevant. WP:CATDEF says categories should be defining characteristics. It is not clear that these sorts of categories should be applied to every media work that happens to include lesbian or gay characters, but editors add these sorts of categories everywhere anyway contrary to what WP:CATDEF suggests.
The fact that Dr. Malaya Pineda, is a lesbian is incidental. It is not clear that the category should be included. The article needs substantial improvement to support keeping the category or the category should be removed. -- 109.79.174.194 (talk) 16:27, 11 September 2021 (UTC)
