Significance of Coelioxys
editThe significant application of Coelioxys to this bee would be interesting to know. Coel- betokens a void or hollowness, and oxys mean bitter or sour. A sodalis is a familiar comrade, an intimate or crony, even a co-conspirator (cf. a clubby "sodality"): good naming for a kleptoparasite, eh. . Those 19th century naturalists had a grasp of Greek and Latin that eludes us. Can any editor work yjis information in?--Wetman (talk) 03:24, 29 November 2014 (UTC)-
- If I can find something, I'll add it. Best to have a solid reference, to avoid WP:NOR issues. In my other articles, I try to work in the etymology. (See Megachile campanulae and Thomomys bulbivorus) There are ~ 500 species of Coelioxys out there. —Gaff ταλκ 06:07, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
