Nationality

edit

Can someone confirm which flag Kazim should be listed under. Its either Turkey, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus or England. Ive left it as England until it can be confirmed. The official SUFC website says Nationality is England. Please make the appropriate changes citing sources, thanks hawksworthm 13:50, 16 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is an unrecognized country (they can't be in sports etc.) thus all of its citizens generally are counted as Turks and join international sports as citizens of Turkey. According to the Turkish constitution; everyone whose mother or father is a Turk is considered as a Turk; thus he have double citizenship. (Just like Muzzy İzzet) Nerval 21:39, 16 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
As far as I was aware, he was English, but he does have dual-citizenship. From the SUFC official website "In addition, Colin Kazim-Richards has been called up to the Turkish U21 squad that meets their Swiss counterparts on Saturday 24th March. Kazim-Richards is eligable to represent Turkey through his Turkish-born mother"
He's been called up to the senior Turkey national football team recently.[1]

Kazim/Kâzım: Page move discussion

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

While I accept the diacritics and letter forms are an integral part of the Turkish language and therefore of the original version of this name, CKR's name was registered at a UK registry office, and therefore the legal (and best known) version of his name would be Kazim, not Kâzım. I would suggest that in an encyclopedia accuracy to the facts should take precedence over a desire to apply retrospectively a traditional orthography, and thus propose a move (a return, in fact) of the article to Colin Kazim-Richards, and use of English orthography except in the explanation of the origins of his name. Kevin McE 13:20, 16 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

With no opinion expressed to the contrary in 8 days, and bearing in mind that the switch away from standard UK orthography was made with no discussion, I am now initiating the move back to its original title. Despite what it says here, it cannot be done without the intervention of an admin, hence the announcement at the top of this page. Kevin McE 17:16, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
How does he write his own name? I think that information could be a good guideline. The other form should be a redirect anyway. E.G. 07:53, 27 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

With no apparent evidence of English usage of current title, support this move. —  AjaxSmack  14:24, 30 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Real Name

edit

Can someone please turn the page title to:Colin Kâzım Richards. That's his name. I changed all of them in the article but the page title should be changed also. rokkafellah (talk) 20:21, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

What is your evidence for saying that this is his real name. See the page move discussion above. To summarise it, he was born, and had his name formally registered, in the UK: UK registration law allows only for the 26 letters of the alphabet used in English, with no diacritics. His legally registered name at birth was therefore Colin Kazim Richards. If you have evidence that he has changed his name in law since then, by all means provide it: I would contend that, in the English speaking world (and this is en.wikipedia), he is best known by the version of his name that is the current title of the article. Kevin McE 22:41, 7 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I guess you're right. Colin changed his name to 'Kâzım Kâzım' though. Look at www.fenerbahçe.org. rokkafellah (talk) 20:21, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

The contributions by User:Rokkafellah in this discussion were made on 7/8 October 2007: the 1 August 2008 date refers to the editor replacing a SineBot signature with his/her own. Kevin McE (talk) 08:17, 2 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Infobox contradicts article

edit

The infobox states that Kazim-Richards' scoring record for Fenerbahçe is 26 games/0 goals. Yet the article mentions two goals he has scored. I don't have the data necessary to update this myself (as I only know of the UEFACL goals mentioned in the article - not how many games he has played or any other goals he might have scored). Cynical (talk) 23:00, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Because it states at the bottom of the infobox "Senior club appearances and goals counted for the domestic league only". (Mixed_Ham (talk) 04:09, 3 April 2008 (UTC))Reply

Page move

edit

Pretty sure he was known to UEFA as Colin Kazim-Richards over the last couple of weeks and not Kazim Kazim. Any evidence to illustrate the need for a change on the English language wikipedia.Londo06 11:45, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Move reverted: there has been previous discussion of the page title, and that change went against consensus. Kevin McE (talk) 13:29, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Didn't want to revert it myself incase there was a discussion elsewhere or I had missed it in the English news.Londo06 17:01, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Erroroneous info on Turkey.

edit

The article stats that turkey is an islamic country, when Turkey is in fact Secular, and has been since Attaturk. Article should be corrected?

86.130.66.200 (talk) 22:43, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

I also want to add to this and state that it is untrue that people are not allowed to have non-Turkish names in Turkey. This common misconception exists, because a lot of people who gain citizenship end up Turkicizing their names to better integrate into society (I actually think some of them just have fun trying to find a Turkish name to adapt). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.187.67.69 (talk) 09:44, 5 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Edit warring over nationality

edit

This individual was born in England of a father who has Antiguan ancestry and a Cypriot mother. It is highly misleading to describe his nationality in one word. We do not allocate nationality by ethnicity, and there is no evidence of recent generations of his family being from Turkey.

Edit note accusations of vandalism need to be justified. Kevin McE (talk) 22:52, 31 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

It's about sticking with Wikipedia's guidelines. See Raheem Sterling as an example. --Bobcats 23 (talk) 06:04, 1 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for drawing my attention to an article that makes a similar over-simplification with no source and no justification either on talk or in an edit summary. That has now been corrected. However, it casts no light on this case. Nor have you made any attempt to justify your accusation of vandalism.
You tried being bold with an edit to a long standing version of this page. That was reverted, and so you should have come here to discuss. I shall now return this page to the long term stable version, and it will be for you, or anyone else who believes the change to be justified, to establish consensus for it here. Kevin McE (talk) 08:31, 1 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
No valid argument regarding Wikipedia's rules was given, again. WP:OPENPARA states that opening paragraph should have notable nationality of the person before "the notable positions the person held, activities they took part in or roles they played". Since he is a footballer and only represented Turkey at international level (through Turkish Cypriot ethnicity, including the senior national team), but not England or any other country at any age level, it should be "Turkish footballer". Raheem Sterling was just an example, there are other articles with the same layout. For more information about how someone is able to play for a national team, see FIFA eligibility rules. --Bobcats 23 (talk) 02:40, 2 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
You are very selective in your quote from wp:openpara. It says In most modern-day cases this will mean the country of which the person is a citizen, national or permanent resident, or if notable mainly for past events, the country where the person was a citizen, national or permanent resident when the person became notable.
We have no information in the public forum about what citizenship(s) Kazim-Richards holds. His first language is English, he was born in England, he lives in England. I am not saying that he should be described as English, or as English-born: I am simply saying that a complex situation cannot be adequately summarised in one word. Note that the MoS does not say that nationality must be given: it says that in most cases it should be part of the context. Complexity seems evidently a reason not to oversimplify. His nationality issues are explained in the article, and his participation for the Turkish national team is present in the first sentence.
FIFA eligibility (and before playing, he was eligible for at least three countries, so FIFA eligibility is not exclusive) is not nationality. You acknowledge that it is ethnicity, not nationality, that makes him eligible for Turkey. Incidentally, if his parents and grandparents are/were Cypriot, then I cannot see how he fits the FIFA criteria to play for Turkey that you reference, but that is one for FIFA to defend. Teams he has played for

edit

Someone has been messing around with the teams this player has played for. I cant edit as I don't know the exact info myself but Dylan fc and westwood rovers or whatever someone had put is clearly a load of rubbish81.159.128.36 (talk) 22:20, 13 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
