YOUTUBE ACCOUNT IS GONE!

They closed down their youtube account. There's nothing left. What happened? Did they get a new one? The name was: collegehumor. I need my daily fix of funnies. -G —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.230.83.54 (talk) 22:55, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Maybe try their website? The original place of the videos? Collegehumor.com? --64.251.145.101 (talk) 07:08, 1 December 2008 (UTC)This Guy

"Criticisms" section

Keep it down, kids... this page is for discussing the Wikipedia article, not debating about CollegeHumor. Bigbluefish (talk) 11:44, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

The criticism that collegehumor.com is "glorifying casual sex" is pretty baseless, I feel this part of the section could be removed as it really applies to any college-themed entertainment. If nobody responds to this comment in the next couple'a days, I'm just going to remove it.

The article that is referenced as making this criticism (from the "University fo Victoria's Independent Newspaper," not much of a source) does not implicitly criticize collegehumor.com for glorifying casual sex, but rather states that the site is based around "hookup culture," a claim which is not backed up in any way within the text. In fact the article only makes a passing reference to collegehumor.com. The article is more about the changing secxual norms in campus life (and it's a late-comer for an article on this topic, the concept of "hooking up" has been covered by other, more notable publications years before this article came out.)

Collegehumor.com only glorifies casual sex and hookups as much as the college lifestyle itself does (living away from parents/authority figures with other young people in an enclosed community, free from everyday responsibility, "experimentation" of all forms being highly enouraged).

Collegehumor.com mostly consists of images, videos, and other media that is sent in directly from college students and published on the site. So the fact that collegehumor.com deals with sex casually is merely a reflection of the material people submit to the site. I don't think it's fair to blame the sites creators/webmasters for their lack of taste, as they pretty much publish anything sent in uncensored. That's why the site is called collegehumor; it's sophmoric, dirty, crude, and that's the point. Similar sites such as the less-popular collegestories.com do the same thing dealing with sex, drugs, and general debauchery in an uncensored forum.

This criticism that collegehumor.com glroifies casual sex might be applied to the articles written by collegehumor.com's staff (which, I might add, is practically the only original content the site ever produces), but even these articles are quite varied, some depicting hookups and some about people actually in monogomous relationships, some are not about sex at all (but almost all at least reference sex, it's college, sex is on the brain).

However, I think the critcism that the site is plastered with advertisements and that they try to portray advertisements as "hotlinks" is wholly accurate.

(from a parter in CollegeHumor): I would argue that there is nothing deceptive about placing advertisements in the Hotlinks section. To my knowlege, we were the first to use the term "Hotlinks" in this particular context; namely, as a list of links to external websites appearing at the end of a front-page update. We have never defined Hotlinks or otherwise implied that they are purely editorial content, nor do I feel we are violating a precedent for the content of Hotlinks, since there is no such precedent.

Do we have any evidence of complaints regarding our Hotlink practices?

CH.com didn't violate a precedent by putting advertisements within the hotlinks. But the advertisements that appear in the hotlinks are different from the other ads on the site in that they are not always clearly presented as advertisements. An advertisement in the hotlinks probably has a better chance of people clicking it than, say, a banner ad, because it's within a lot of entertainment content and people don't necessarily know it's an ad (they might think it's more pictures/funny articles, because the captions for the links aren't always descriptive of what they are). So, in that way, I actually think it is a little deceptive (sort of like those fake articles in magazines that have the words "special advertising section" in tiny print hidden an the top, a way of getting people to look at ads by presenting it as something else). Does it cost more to advertise on your site through the hotlinks rather than banner ads?

Hacked

This 6 second video suggests that the youtube site was hacked. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvDMh3bpBAE 192.156.234.170 (talk) 17:16, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

It never got hacked, and I've been watching CollegeHumor for over 4 years.

Also, I'm going to ad the {{Mid-Class}} template to dis here article. Suggestions? Comments? Go to Aimsplode (talk)

South Park apology

Matt Stone and Trey Parker apologized October 22nd, 2010 for plagarizing a sketch about the film Inception from CollegeHumor. Parts were taken verbatim. I would add this to history, but don't trust my HTML skills. I'm sure someone else here could do a much nicer and efficient job. New Series!

Hi Wikipedia College Humor has released three new shows you might be interested in including in your article. "Nerd Alert," "Bad Dads," and "Starship Troopers!" Don't believe me look it up on there website. I hope you guys found this information helpful. Also Sarah Schneider is a member of College Humor. Is she being deleted because she put in some inapproiate stuff here. I don't know I'm new to this whole Wikipedia thing. Rock on everyone!!!-James Pandora Adams —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.176.164.245 (talk) 01:50, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Well first of all, it is called "Troopers", not "Starship Troopers". Also, "Bad Dads" and "Nerd Alert" are no longer active, and "Troopers" comes out pretty rarely. CrocodilesAreForWimps (talk) 15:21, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

This page is pretty out-dated

I'm a staff illustrator at CollegeHumor as of March 2015, and just skimming through this, there's tons of out-dated stuff. I'll try to go through at some point and change what I know, but I'm not going to have good citation except that I work here. For instance, Andrew Bridgman is editor in chief now, not Streeter. Just one of many examples. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.112.253.15 (talk) 05:45, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on CollegeHumor. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

Incorrect Data for MAU

I don't have access to the Quantcast data, but "The site traffic reaches approximately 30,000 monthly American users, according to Quantcast direct measurement" isn't possibly correct. A rough estimate I see these days puts them around 1.3M monthly American users. 30k is almost nothing. Perhaps just delete that sentence?

Major Update to the Page

Editors should really revamp this page since most of the info are outdated and really needs to be updated and also some sections aren't necessary or if necessary could be shifted to their own wiki page. I'd find citation and try to update as much as I can but I would like other people's coordinated help which can be helpful (Sufyanxtreme (talk) 18:08, 3 May 2019 (UTC))

Past Tense?

The website seems to have “shut down” a few days ago as it is now just a redirect to their YouTube channel. Should we change the article to past tense now that the website is gone, or should we leave it as it is because the YouTube channel is still there? 100.36.44.138 (talk) 18:52, 6 October 2019 (UTC)

Splitting proposal

I propose that section Dimension 20 be split into a separate page called Dimension 20. The content of the current page seems off-topic (the show does not feel reflective or tied to the CollegeHumor brand) and this section is large enough to justify its own page. Bralfosaur (talk) 04:30, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

I would agree with a split- mostly because about half the page is now Dimension 20. --ERAGON (talk) 11:18, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
I'd also support a split. There are still other shows created by CollegeHumor (Game Changer; Um, Actually) that are still running. Dimension 20 gets the most attention out of them, though. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 14:28, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
It's been a couple of days so I'm going to call that consensus, I'll see about organising a split over the next few days.--ERAGON (talk) 19:14, 19 June 2021 (UTC)
Split is done. It's very messy and somewhat undercited right now, but Dimension 20 is now its own article. --ERAGON (talk) 14:30, 22 June 2021 (UTC)

Rebrand to Dropout

Hello! Since CollegeHumor is now rebranding to Dropout, should we be changing the title of this article to Dropout? NowInHD (talk) 19:05, 26 September 2023 (UTC)

It looks like it is still CH Media but is operating as Dropout on both its streaming service and on YouTube; before it retained the CollegeHumor branding on the YouTube channel even though the CollegeHumor website has been defunct for a while (and redirects to the streaming service). The name should be updated but there's already a CH Media - suggestions on how to differentiate (ie. CH Media (X))? Sariel Xilo (talk) 19:12, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
Looks like maybe they're changing that, too? The CH Media LinkedIn page that chmedia.com linked to now redirects to one named DropoutTV, and the dropout website's copyright notice at the bottom now says "© 2023 Dropout Connected Ventures." So perhaps they're "Dropout Connected Ventures" instead of "CH Media" now. Reil (talk) 19:59, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
Interesting! I was trying to trace the shift from CollegeHumor to CollegeHumor Media (at some point under IAC) to CH Media (at some point under Reich) but besides those various names being used in press releases, I don't have concrete dates for how long it operated under those various names. So the name should definitely be changed from CollegeHumor but maybe not to CH Media? Sariel Xilo (talk) 20:17, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
Yeah! I think that sounds right. "CollegeHumor" is getting scrubbed from everything, but I'm not 100% certain what's being/been changed to what, haha.
I was hoping CrunchBase would tell us something, but they still have CHMedia listed as being owned by IAC, so the company as it is now is either listed under some other name that isn't CH Media or Dropout? I've found ConnectedVentures as "operates CollegeHumor Media" on Crunchbase, which matches "Dropout Connected Ventures", but that seems like it was part of the IAC acquisition and disappeared with that. Reil (talk) 20:26, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
Per CNN in 2020 (quoting Reich's tweet), Reich is the "majority owner of CH Media" and per Bloomberg in 2020, "IAC will keep a minority stake in the business, according to a person familiar with the matter". There's also another Bloomberg article (IAC Explores Sale of College Humor Parent CH Media in October 2019) which might be useful but I can't see that one without a subscription. Sariel Xilo (talk) 20:40, 26 September 2023 (UTC) Update: ConnectedVentures was the parent company of CollegeHumor when founders Josh Abramson and Ricky Van Veen sold ConnectedVentures to IAC in 2006 (several companies operated under the ConnectedVentures banner). Sariel Xilo (talk) 21:07, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
Maybe the article title should become Dropout (production company) because that's their operating name and then something to clarify in the lead (Dropout, formally CollegeHumor, CollegeHumor Media, and CH Media, is...). I'm going to update the infobox to CH Media & grab the logo just so it is less outdated and we can update to Dropout later when the article name changes. Sariel Xilo (talk) 21:07, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
Their Privacy Policy makes it seem like Connected Ventures LLC is the operating company still? Just gonna keep throwing down hints as I find them. I think. Reil (talk) 21:45, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
The Dec 2018 archive capture of the chmedia.com states: CH Media is a wholly-owned subsidiary of IAC comprised of the award-winning digital properties CollegeHumor, Dorkly, Drawfee, and the recently launched subscription service DROPOUT. which means CH Media was used before it was acquired by Reich. I think regardless of the holding company's exact name, the audience facing name is Dropout (instead of CH Media) so we should shift it Dropout (X) (with X needing to be determined; production company or something else?). Sariel Xilo (talk) 22:09, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
It's also worth noting that Dropout (streaming platform) already exists. Is a merge in the cards at that point, or is it not that weird to have two "Dropout (X)" articles pointing to two aspects of one legal entity? Reil (talk) 22:16, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
I think a merged article would be a bit long (ex: Critical Role Productions was split from Critical Role due to length but at least the names are slightly different). However, it is probably worth opening a discussion to get input from other editors. If it was merged, maybe the title should be Dropout (media company)? Sariel Xilo (talk) 22:31, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
Got a reply from Mr. Reich on the Dropout discord channel!
it'd be a rough time to edit the wikipedia page as we're still in the process of making all of these updates! for now on paper, we're still connected ventures, though we're hoping to replace CH media with dropout within the next few months. (fun fact: connected ventures was come up with by ricky van veen at the age of 18, trying to sound "as corporate as possible.")
So, at the most technical level, it's Connected Ventures and CH media operating with a brand name of Dropout, but will at some point in the future maybe become Dropout. I know "a discord reply" isn't a proper source, but it's a good indicator for the changes to look out for. Reil (talk) 21:04, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
Awesome idea to reach out directly! If Reich repeats that on a more public social media site (like Twitter), we can cite that primary source. Sariel Xilo (talk) 21:10, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
