Requested article title change 01 February 2019
editTechnical University of Cologne definitely is the wrong title for this article. First, this designation does not appear at the institution's own website simply because it must not appear there. TH Köln is a University of Applied Sciences, i.e., an institution of higher education that, unlike Universities/Technical Universities/Universities of Technology, does NOT have the right to grant PhDs (or even habilitations) and also has a very different faculty recruitment strategy and profile (more professional experience- and teaching competence-related selection criteria, etc.). Thus, the present article title is absolutely inadequate (and might even support the proliferation of factually wrong information such as in press releases on cooperation agreements between TH Köln and its international partners. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Christianssand (talk • contribs) 16:24, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

Technical University of Cologne → TH Köln – University of Applied Sciences – Official Name is TH Köln – University of Applied Sciences – Fhk-online (talk) 11:25, 3 March 2016 (UTC)

- Contesting. I think this needs a full RM. Having something as WP:OFFICIALNAME doesn't mean it is necessarily the WP:COMMONNAME in English reliable sources. — Amakuru (talk) 11:43, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
- Support, current title is misleading (it is not a university like Technical University of Berlin, but a Fachhochschule). —Kusma (t·c) 09:49, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose per Amakuru. WP:OFFICIALNAME we do not use official names just because they are official. A Fachhochschule is a university of applied science, which is indeed a type of technical university, since it is applied sciences and not pure sciences, according to our article on those things, so it is a type of university, in English terminology. Fachhochschule doesn't really matter since if the commonname calls it a university, it would be called "University" -- 70.51.46.39 (talk) 05:28, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose. Well argued by Amakuru and the IP above. Andrewa (talk) 05:26, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
- Support. A German "Fachhochschule" does not have the right to award doctorates. Thus, the title "university" is highly misleading. If the official name is not used here, the only option is to rename the article to "Technical University of Applied Sciences of Cologne" Andi.schwenk (talk) 10:26, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
