More about including the external reference
editAs the owner of the colonialmeetingohuse.org web site, and the original author of this page, I would like to address both the issue of Copyrights that some people have raised, and the above question about whether it is appropriate to include the external reference on the Wiki page.
First the Copyright issue: As the originator of the Wikipedia page, I found it easiest to re-use my own words from my web site when creating the Wikipedia page. I was unaware of the need to send e-mail to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. I have now recently done this. Firthermore, because of the editing of others (Thanks, everyone!), the text is now substantially different. For these reasons, I do not think there is any more issues surrounding Copyrights.
As for the external reference, I think it is appropriate to leave it in place. As mentioned, the Wikipedia page is now substantially shortened, and the web page contains more information that does not appear on the Wiki page. Furthermore, there are additional photographs that are not included in the Wikipedia page. For these reasons, I feel it is appropriate to leave the reference.

overall concerns
editUmmm..."In colonial New England, there was little distinction between faith and community." ?Source?? This is a pretty broad generalization and one I can't support from my research. The rest of the article seems to be in the same vein. This needs a lot more backup and references beyond the author's self-referential material. I know these books and I wouldn't say they all say what this article is trying to say. Furthermore, the writer doesn't 'own' the article and there is a system for changes within the wiki structure, not the use of an email which suggests the writer will only make changes they like. Not in line with the framework of this organization as I understand it, and it also explains the inbred sense of the article itself. Add a "watch this page" if you want, but don't expect people to write to you. Dellaroux (talk) 02:24, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
Title/premise of this entry
editThe idea of a "colonial meeting house" is odd. Meetinghouses existed in the colonial period and later (until the separation of church and state in each respective state that had them), so the premise of the article seems grounded in confusion. Additionally, one of the photos of a "colonial meeting house" is one constructed in 1789--after the colonial period (the example in Alna, Maine). In my opinion as a historian and architectural historian in New England, this article should be removed/combined with a general article on meetinghouses. 146.243.28.14 (talk) 16:56, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
