Usage in Fiction

I don't recall the term CIC being used in any incarnation of Star Trek (except in Star Trek 6, when it referred to Commander in Chief). I'm going to remove the Star trek reference. The title of my biography is "Robert A. Heinlein in Dialogue With His Century." "Robert A. Heinlein" is the title of Dr. Stover's 1987 overview of the Heinlein corpus. The title of Volume 1 is "Learning Curve." Dr. Ed Wysocki has been researching this topic in particular and reminds me that Laning's work (for which he was decorated) was an enhancement to the existing CIC. Laning's particular contribution was to integrate radar and other new technology with existing CIC. In the quoted material Laning was referring to the enhancement, not to the origin of the CIC concept. Article title: "Operations Room" vs "Combat Information Center"

I've been working for the US Navy in one capacity or another for 17 years, including substantial time at sea. I have NEVER heard CIC referred to as the "Operations Room," and I had to ask old guys to find someone who has, and even then it was an alternate term that referred to only some of the activities housed there. This term appears to be a hold-over from the days when air ops was run out of CIC before US carriers were built with separate Air Ops centers. If that's the case, then it means this article is only about 30 years out of date. Note that this is supported by all of the external links, which are all about CICs, not "Operations Rooms."

The article title should be "Combat Information Center," with a note that the British have a different name for it. Perhaps "Operations Room" should be a separate article that refers to land-based facilities.Chrisweuve (talk) 17:48, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

Researched this a little further -- "Operations Room" is a current or near-current British term. I assume that it might be used by other Commonwealth members. I'm still of the opinion that the main article should be called Combat Information Center since the references seem to prefer that term. Chrisweuve (talk) 13:29, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
