Locales
editI'm going to add "Rwanda" on to this list: "In Nigeria, Lesotho and South Africa, sorghum is used to produce beer." The local brew in Kigali (and perhaps other parts, though I didn't see any up north) is called Primus, and it is also a sorghum beer. Anglican 05:30, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
- It gets unnecessarily untidy when articles start list every single nation or state by name, especially for trivial points such as this. Once the list gets over 3 or 4 long replace it with a generic. In this case "southern Africa".
Is Ethiopian injera sometimes made from sorghum? If so, that needs a citation. It's made with teff, according to the Wikipedia injera article. ThreeRocks (talk) 00:51, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
Sweet sorghum
editThere seems to be a contradition between this page and the "Sorghum bicolor" page. One states that sweet sorghum is a varity that produces sweet, juicy grains and is thus equivalent to sweet corn. The the other claims that that sweet sorghum is synonymous with forage sorghum, ie stock feed.Ethel Aardvark 08:28, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
Merge
editI disagree with a merge because I believe each species should have it's own article, and this article is more about the commerical production and wouldn't not contain that much information about the individual species. Million_Moments 07:39, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

While I originally would have thought the Durra should merge into Sorghum bicolor, but given the discussion above, it seems that the local names may refer to a number of species, and therefore the human usage aspects of Sorghum should go here. This seems reasonable, and the Durra article has a couple of things that should be salvaged for this article before changing to redirect here. T L Miles (talk) 17:35, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
Support moving content from Durra to this article and/or Sorghum bicolor, then making Durra a redirect. Where it should redirect to depends on how specific the name is: if Durra means just the one species, it should redirect there. It seems more likely that it's a general term for sorghum, so it's appropriate to redirect here. Thomas Kluyver (talk) 12:32, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
- I have merged it into Sorghum bicolor. It seems that all cultivated sorghum is now thought to be part of S. bicolor, so that made more sense. Thomas Kluyver (talk) 18:53, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Sorghum and bio-ethanol
editIt would be useful for there to be a whole subsection dedicated to the use of sorghum as a source of bio-fuel, and some mention of dual-purpose (grain and bio-ethanol) varieties—GRM (talk) 16:22, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
