Hello Wikipedians, I am the communications coordinator for the Committee of Interns and Residents. I was reviewing this page and noticed it was a bit sparse on information. I'm providing some updates to this page in efforts to keep the information current. For the sake of transparency, it is important that the Wikipedia editing community be aware that following changes and additions have been made:

1.) An organization box with membership, leadership, and affiliation (with SEIU) information 2.) The mission statement of the organization, paraphrased and/or expressed in the third person as appropriate 3.) Updated membership and participation figures 4.) Further Reading

We've updated the mission statement section of our website so the information here is out of date. I understand that my editing this article could be seen as a conflict of interest so I just wanted to put the updated information here with a link to our site in hopes that someone will update it.

Mission Statement: (link-http://www.cirseiu.org/about/Default.aspx) The Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR) brings together interns, residents, and fellows in a chapter-based organization whose purpose is to represent its doctor-members and the interests of the patients and communities they serve through the use of collective bargaining and resident advocacy.

CIR envisions and works to achieve: 1) better working and training conditions for residents, and 2) a more humane, effective and accessible quality health care system for all. Toward these ends, CIR engages in organizing, contract negotiations and enforcement, patient advocacy, and legislative and political action.

To advance common goals, CIR builds cooperation among housestaff from all departments and specialties and also works in coalitions with other unions and health care employees; with community and patient groups; and with medical student and professional organizations.

Elected officers at chapter, regional, and national levels represent the diversity of CIR’s members and the range of institutions and regions in which they work. CIR pools resident resources nationally to provide staff, technical support, and organizational continuity to enable housestaff to have an effective voice on the issues they and their patients face.

While maintaining its unique identity and special strengths, CIR achieves its mission as an affiliate of Service Employees International Union working with other doctors and other health care employees. Cirseiu (talk) 15:56, 3 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
