To-do List

edit

This article needs a lot of work. Namely:

  • It needs more sources. Right now my only source is Saulo's book, which covers a lot of ground from 1930-roughly 1971, but after PD1081 I have nothing. Saulo is also very biased in his book, so other sources would round things out nicely.
  • It needs more details on the CPP during the Martial Law era and beyond. I think the CPP article is pretty detailed but I'm not sure.
  • Pictures, I guess.

Anyway I guess that's it. Glhf guys. NyanThousand (talk) 17:29, 7 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

So, as of today I'd like to think I've contributed what I can to this particular article, at least insofar as the history of the leftist movement in the Philippines is concerned. Some things though:
  • This article got bloated real fast. Understandable, given the amount of history it had to cover, but I think we need to start thinking of splitting it up, or at least, summarizing each section and simultaneously beefing up sections relevant to it (e.g. putting the bulk of the PKP's history to the PKP page).
    • In line with this, the next things I'm going to do would be fill up/make articles for things relevant to this broad discussion. My sandbox has a sort of template in it, which I'll be trying to fill up next. I'll probably even just straight up add the template, I don't know.
  • I found some additional sources, but more would be very useful. I'll try to find more sources and comb through the article again, and see what I can add based on those additional sources. A particularly useful source would be Jose Lava's "Milestones in the History of the CPP", and PKP/CPP memoranda in general.
  • This article is too focused on the PKP/CPP. Understandable, since they're the main organizations, but they are by no means the only ones. Groups like the SPP, PKMP, and the AMT were important in the PKP, while a better look into the CPP-NPA-NDF dynamic would be pretty nice.
  • Still needs pictures. Not too sure on how non-free pictures work, but since most of these guys are dead that means no free alternative could be made, right? Which necessitates the use of a non-free resource.
  • Proof-reading would be nice.

Well anyway, that's it from me. I'd be happy if you guys join in. NyanThousand (talk) 18:10, 11 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Major Overhaul

edit

Hello. I recently did a major overhaul of the page, resulting in at least half of the content word count getting cut, new sources, and a new structure. To summarize what I did:

  • I trimmed what I can from the page to make it more concise. The idea is that main articles should serve to cover the details of historical events while this article should be more of an overview. Over the next few days I plan on reviewing all relevant articles and adding information as needed. Ideally, the history section shouldn't be too long, but fortunately we are blessed by a wealth of scholarship so we can really get in the details.
  • I restructured the History section to four distinct periods: Pre-PKP, PKP, First Rectification, and Second Rectification. These are generally the "pivotal moments" in the communist movement's history. Doing this also allowed me to re-balance the article to give more depth to the CPP-NPA-NDF, an organization that has achieved preeminence in the Philippine communist movement over the past 50 years.
  • I added two new sections: Ideology and Major Organizations. This is to expand the article from simply being a history dump. Detailed discussion on tactics should however be relegated to their individual organizations' pages.

It's a major rewrite, I know. But I think it's in keeping with the spirit of the article's intent. That said, there's still a lot to be done:

  • In terms of historical fact, I think the bulk of work is on beefing up articles orbiting this one, such as individual organizations, events, and so on.
  • I think we can trim the article even more without losing key information.
  • It needs more pictures and other media

Well, that's it from me. Also the fact that the last time I touched this article was on January 2016 isn't lost on me. That's some weird shit right there. NyanThousand (talk) 16:32, 10 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Will be reviewing this, I hope to not mess up unlike my first-fourth reviews, Thanks. 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 11:18, 17 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Apologies, but the article has various problems, especially for grammar, I may have to put this on hold.

1. Well-written - There are a lot of small grammar problems, the prose is clear and concise, and understandable. The article also passes the guideline for lead sections (although there needs to be citations to the places where there aren't). Passes the layout guideline, and the words to watch guideline.

  • Lead: Add comma after the currently   Done
  • Lead: Switch underground with weaker   Done
  • Lead: Add comma after underground   Done

  • Early history (6th paragraph): Remove word "the East, (in) Moscow."   Done
  • Early history (7th paragraph): Period, capitalize. "and others(.)[1] (A)nd a Left faction headed by Evangelista."   Done
  • Early history (8th paragraph): Remove unnesecary words (I feel like this needs a second opinion) "Jacinto Manahan, a COF member (concerned with the peasantry)."   Done
  • Establishment of the PKP (1st paragraph): Move sentence. " (delete replace with Partido Komunista ng Pilipinas (PKP, Communist Party of the Philippines), a new political party) was

organized from members of the KAP[2] and KPMP,[13] (move, Partido Komunista ng Pilipinas (PKP, Communist Party of the Philippines))"

  • Establishment of the PKP (3rd paragraph): Add comma, "convened with other anti-fascist political groups(,) such as the   Done

  • Establishment of the PKP (11th paragraph): Remove word, "but setbacks would result in (the) Lava's arrest"   Done
  • First Great Rectification Movement and PKP-CPP split (2nd paragraph): Add word (needs comments and extra opinion), "basis of (the) Mao Zedong Thought."   Done
  • First Great Rectification Movement and PKP-CPP split (7th paragraph): Double comma? "more left the CPP,;"   Done

  • Current parties and ideologies (3rd paragraph): Add word "and its splinter group"   Done

2. Verifiable with no original research - The article complies with the manual of style for References.
2b. Source Spotcheck - Since most of the sources are books, I will do a quick one. Note: All of the sources referenced here are from this revision.

  • Lead: Most of the sources are cited inline, with only a few being suspicious. Book sources are assumed to be correct, Source 4 is suspicious, leading to a dead link,

Source 5 is cited inline, leading to a website containing the law stated in the sentence, Source 6 does not mention the "Amando Guerrero" stated in the sentence, while it states everything else. Source 7 and 8 is proper,

  • History (Early history): Reference 14 is cited properly and inline.
  • History (Establishment of the PKP): Source 17 mentions the main parts of the sentence but does not mention some parts. (2nd paragraph), Source 19 is proper.
  • History (First Great Rectification Movement and PKP-CPP split): Source 24 is a proper and reliable reference. Source 26 only states the year and some of the sentence.

Source 28 leads to a JSTOR link, and is proper, and Source 29 is a reliable source.

  • History (Second Great Rectification Movement): Sources 31 and 36 are reliable and inline sources.

Sources 32, 33, and 37 are secondary but kind-of reliable sources. Source 40 is a dead link.

  • Ideologies: All the references here are reliable and inline.

2c. See a unverified paragraph in the lead and an unverified sentence in early history (1st paragraph). I also see another unverified paragraph in Early history (6th), I see a unverified sentence in the Establishment of the PKP subsection (4th paragraph).
2d. Suspiciously has copyvios (according to Earwig) but that was because of the organization names.
4. Neutral: I don't see any biased words breaking the NPOV guideline and the Words to Watch guideline, good to go.
3. Broad: Addresses the main points in the lead and does not miss any points, good to go.
5. Stable: No reverts and edit wars in the article history, good to go.
6. Illustrated: I see lots of pictures, easily good to go. 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 03:14, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

  • Establishment of the PKP (1st paragraph): Move sentence. " (delete replace with Partido Komunista ng Pilipinas (PKP, Communist Party of the Philippines), a new political party) was
organized from members of the KAP[2] and KPMP,[13] (move, Partido Komunista ng Pilipinas (PKP, Communist Party of the Philippines))" I'm confused what you want me to replace? FloridaMan21 (talk) 15:19, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
@FloridaMan21 Sorry that it seems confusing, you delete "a new political party" and replace it with Partido Komunista ng Pilipinas (PKP, Communist Party of the Philippines), then you delete the other hint of the party (the end of the sentence). 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 00:28, 19 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Only one more to go! 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 01:47, 19 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Finished, thank you so much! Hopefully the article meets the standards to become a Good Article FloridaMan21 (talk) 02:00, 19 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
