Community Business Development Corporations are an important element in the survival of rural communities in Atlantic Canada. Through the business development services they provide, small businesses are able to obtain the financing, counselling, technical assistance, skill enhancement, business planning, marketing and other key services that allow the business to survive. CBDCs focus on areas of the rural economy that are ignored or have fallin through the gaps of commercial services that may be available in some areas. Traditional lenders such as Chartered Banks and the Business Development Bank are not always willing to take risk that cannot be quantified. By taking chances and believing in entrepreneurs CBDCs are able to help communities survive the ever changing economic environments of the natural resource based economies of Rural Atlantic Canada
