Dissimlarities

Specious analogy. Will write about it soon. Abhishek Devurkar 13:03, 23 August 2012 (IST) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.134.56.85 (talk)

Merger proposal

See Talk:Buddhism and Christianity#Merger proposal. Joshua Jonathan (talk) 07:03, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

Based on the talk there, it looks like this can stay by itself, but the Little Tibet item can merge to Lost years of Jesus. History2007 (talk) 23:13, 17 December 2012 (UTC)

Similarities

I moved "Similarities" from Buddhism and Christianity to "similarities between Buddhism and Christianity" to shorten the article. Joshua Jonathan (talk) 08:21, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Just noting that it is now a redirect. History2007 (talk) 18:49, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

Dalai Lama quote

Where should I put this?

"Jesus Christ also lived previous lives," he said. "So, you see, he reached a high state, either as a Bodhisattva, or an enlightened person, through Buddhist practice or something like that. Then, at a certain period, certain era, he appeared as a new master, and then because of circumstances, he taught certain views different from Buddhism, but he also taught the same religious values as I mentioned earlier: Be patient, tolerant, compassionate. This is, you see, the real message in order to become a better human being." (In an interview with James A. Beverley of CanadianChristianity.com, “Comment: Buddhism's guru”, 4/16/04.) Three inherent topics

There are three topics in this article, and I suggest that they shouldn't be confused:

1. whether Christianity originated from Therapeutae which originated from Theravada, a very-minority opinion claimed by a few authors, such as Freke and Gandy, which is also popular among Theosophists and other new-Agers, but otherwise generally dismissed
2. how similar Christianity and Buddhism are, irrespective of historical influences,
3. some few Christian Buddhists that claim that Christianity and Buddhism are compatible.

Most people have probably not heard of case 3., but I know there are Lutherans that claim to be Buddhist. Rursus dixit. (mbork3!) 11:46, 2 December 2018 (UTC)

I agree that the organization of the article is problematic. What I consider more problematic, though, is the illegitimate use of sources to support statement that supposedly reflect mainstream science. I have removed three of those, and that is just a superficial check of one sentence in the lead, which was supported by four sources, of which I have now removed three. I have therefore tagged the article for original research.--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 16:32, 2 December 2018 (UTC)
