The lead for this article focuses too quickly and too exclusively on South Africa--after the phrase "such as that" we go directly to the SA mines, and I do not believe that compounds for migrant workers existed only in SA. I know for a fact, for instance, that such compounds were common all over Western Europe in the 60s and 70s for migrant workers from Turkey and Northern Africa.
