Screw Types?

edit

well there are all kinds of ways to screw. Just think for minute....lol What types of screws are on/in the case? It seems to me that there are too many of them.--Alvin-cs 12:35, 15 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Parts of the case

edit

What are the names of the case parts? Specifically, what is the name of the small tabs that close the case where an unused slot is? How are they called on a card?

I think by the small tabs that cover unused slots you mean the "blanking plate(s)"Lmcgregoruk (talk) 20:45, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Not a very good article

edit

I'm going to consider beefing this up, and what's with all the Mac stuff? Cases aren't an exclusively Mac innovation, nor is their drive forward so Mac-bound, I'm going to compile some kind of time line of various improvements, feel free to suggest anything. Revrant 02:30, 23 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't understand why out of three images there are two that are of Mac's. I am a big fan of Mac's, but this is certainly not very reprsentative of the majority. I can understand the iMac's inclusion, it is fairly radical, and there is room for diversity, but the Power Mac image makes no sense to me. (08:37, 16 July 2007 (UTC))

aesthetics vs. functionality

edit

I came tot his article in search f confirmation/denial as well explanation of heat dissipation properties of desktop vs tower cases, but all I found was some generic description of the insides and lots of talk about how they look like :/

Formatting

edit

The formatting on this page was a little un-standard (randomly bold, italic, hyperlinked, or combination), so I adjusted most of it. Entbark (talk) 22:44, 4 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Case Sizes

edit

24" is very large for 3-4 external bays. You could quite easily get 6 or 7 into a case that tall. I suspect some of the average sizes stated on the article have been exaggerated. Gunstar hero (talk) 17:24, 14 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Maybe it's just me, but seems like these numbers are its length rather than its height. I could have sworn my case is a mid-tower and it doesn't have that height, but it has that length. 06:56, 3 February 2009 (PST)

Computer Case Function

edit

The article is too generic. A more technical explanation of a computer case is needed. For example, I remember reading that a case is usually metal because it keeps the EM interference from going out and coming in to a minimum.174.6.130.25 (talk) 13:56, 14 September 2009 (UTC)BeeCierReply

Dubious

edit

I added the "dubious" link because when I shopped for one, FlexATX was hard to find and expensive, and the slightly larger microATX was dominant. Maybe this varies over time. Perhaps we should not claim which is most common, but simply list the options. —Długosz (talk) 20:02, 9 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Screwless Cases

edit

Screwless cases existed a long time ago; I remember once disassembling a Siemens Nixdorf (german computer fabricant) about ten or twelve years ago featuring a completely screwless design (except for the motherboard). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.215.218.29 (talk) 17:26, 5 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Likewise... I may still have a noname screwless case from the mini AT form factor era, I'll see if I can find and photograph it. Andrewa (talk) 08:47, 28 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Desktops vs Towers

edit

It would be quite helpful if the article listed the difference between a desktop and a tower, and why towers became prevalent. -mattbuck (Talk) 19:03, 29 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

mid- vs. minitower

edit

From what I know the difference between a midtower and a minitower ist that the forst supports normal ATX fornmfactor motherboards, while the latter only supports µATX. --MrBurns (talk) 23:08, 14 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

ATX popularity

edit

I've tagged this assertion as needing a citation. My strong impression is that the general public are not buying full size ATX PCs en masse. PC World, etc have more mATX towers in the showroom than anything else, and businesses largely use even smaller form factors. At the very least we're missing a key qualifier that ATX is popular with home builders. Chris (talk) 15:25, 7 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Terminology for the case

edit

Base unit is already used for relays and other systems, it's not common enough to warrant mention here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.250.0.109 (talk) 01:53, 17 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Pruning some older case images

edit

I think that the gallery section of this article has had some image creep and could use pruning of unnecessary images.

Here are the ones I suggest removing and the reason:

There are also too many photos of the IBM Personal System/2 when there only really needs to be one or two, max. Unless anyone objects, I will probably be deleting them from the article.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 21:31, 30 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
