Beanies
Is it true that first year students have to wear beanies? It sounds a little outdated to me. --MatthewUND 05:57, Jun 22, 2005 (UTC)
Beanies - affirmative
As a Cobber from the Class of 1998, I can attest to the fact that the beanie tradition hasn't gone away. =) In fact, "beanie snatching" was one of the favorite pastimes of the Moorhead State University football players. (The Cobbers and the Dragons are arch-rivals.) My understanding is that bounties were even paid to young kids riding their bikes through campus - nabbing a beanie off of some unsuspecting frosh's head is probably a pretty amusing way to make a few bucks.
The Cobber beanies do not have propellers on the top like you might be thinking. They're sort of like the skull caps that Jews often wear, only with a very small visor on the front. The beanies come in two different versions - gold with a maroon "C" for frosh, and maroon with a gold "C" for incoming transfer students. Each beanie has a nametag attached to it (trying to identify your beanie if left someplace on campus without the nametag is more or less impossible). New students are provided with their first beanie free of charge - replacements can be had at the campus bookstore.
Traditionally, the beanies are to be worn until the Cobber footballers score their first touchdown at home, at which point the beanies are tossed or simply removed. Many students, however, manage to duck tradition and ditch their beanies as soon as they feel they can get away with it.
For those who let it, the beanie can be a fun tradition and a fond memento... mine's in my study to this day!
- It's true! I am a second year student, and the tradition is still going strong! Freshmen are supposed to wear their beanies throughout orientation. Then, a ceremony takes place, called the Beanie Toss, on the first day of class, after the president of the college declares the academic year has started (in another ceremony.) It's a fun tradition. Yes, the dragons (and some Concordia upper-classmen) steal the beanies of unexpecting freshmen. There is also Beanie Patrol, a group of students that go around giving prizes (cupons for free pizzas, etc.) for those freshmen who are proudly wearing their beanies. Good memories! :) Sonrisasgrandes 20:34, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yup... Wearing mine right now. My roommate just had his stolen by a MSUM football player. JWGreen 04:50, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Music Colleges in the United States?
Concordia College is a Liberal Arts College, not a Music College, so I'm remvoing that Category. -JWGreen 22:48, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Unsourced material
The following is unsourced information:
- The bell tower was finished in 1991 to celebrate the school's hundredth birthday.
- The bell tower goes as deep into the ground as it does into the sky.
- Students often walk around the bell tower rather than through it because of a superstition holding that Cobbers who walk through it alone will not get married, and Cobbers who walk as a pair will get married to each other.
- The word "UFF-DA" can be found in the mosaic upon entering the Carl B. Ylvisaker Library.
- A statue of former college president Joseph L. Knutson is referred to as "The Chocolate Man" and is a common meeting place for students.
- There are also two large modern art granite statues on a round base between Old Main, the Knutson Center and Academy Hall that are referred to as "Ole and Lena," named for the famous Minnesotan-Norwegian couple whose misunderstandings and marital problems are known to jokers throughout the upper midwest.
- The campus is said to hold the highest point in Moorhead, MN, Olin Hill, a manmade hill in the middle of the campus.
- Concordia means "Our hearts together" in Latin.
- Concordia holds the only Lambda Delta Sigma sorority chapter in the nation.
- Polar explorer Roald Amundsen's teeth are housed in the Carl B Ylvisaker Library's Fourth Floor Archives. They were extracted by a Fargo dentist days before his disappearance. They were then donated to Concordia College.
While this is interesting, we can't use it unless you provide a source. Also, none of this is really trivia, as trivia by its definition is "unimportant information" - it therefore shouldn't be in a trivia section but instead the information should be incorporated into the main article. - Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 02:17, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
opening paragraph
I don't think that mentioning Pamela Joliceur's death and eventual replacement in the introductory paragraph is necessary. These bits of information were added shortly after her death, but considering the length and scope of Concordia's existence they seem more like news bits. Would there be any serious objection to the removal of those sentences?--Atwardow (talk) 18:44, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

Neutrality
The facts given on this page are overwhelmingly positive and not at all comprehensive. Specifically under Academics, the only figures given are often given in relation to how much better they are than the national average. They should be given objectively (as in, just the percentage) and more general figures should be given not just where the school excels. Meyerbla (talk) 06:52, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
