Connecticut statistical areas - where's the primary statistical area population change table?
editIf you're landing on this page you might be wondering why Connecticut doesn't have a table of its primary statistical areas demonstrating population trends (like seen here for Alabama, for example). This is because Connecticut completely redefined its county-equivalents starting in 2019. As of the most recent bulletin on statistical areas produced by the Office of Management and Budget in 2023, Connecticut's planning regions are now in use going forward, and Connecticut's own statistical areas have been entirely redefined to account for this.
As such, there is no meaningful trend data to be gathered about Connecticut's urban areas due to the geographic units defining them changing entirely and very recently. Once three authoritative years of data exist for the planning regions, this page will be updated with what's available.
Establishing this talk topic here in case anyone else keeps an eye on these pages and might have thoughts on how to handle historic data on Connecticut's statistical areas given these recent changes, especially given that this lack of data will impact the New York City CSA totals. Population updates
editPopulation data from the United States Census Bureau may be updated either:
- (1) Every ten years with data from the decennial United States Census, or
- (2) Annually with data from the decennial United States Census and annual population estimates from the United States Census Bureau.
The following table shows when population data is available:
Source: | Decennial Census | Population Estimates |
Date: | April 1 of years divisible by ten | July 1 of years not divisible by ten |
Region: | date population data available | |
nation | December | December 1 |
state | ||
statistical area | February-March of next year | April 1 of next year |
county | ||
places | June 1 of next year |
