Mentioning of constituent countries
editA constituent country is a country which makes up a part of a larger country, or federation.
'Other relationships' Countries may be held (usually by force) as part of a larger country or federation of countries. An example of this was the Soviet Union, which held various countries in eastern Europe by force for up to 70 years. Doremon764 (talk) 16:38, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
- Russia has republics instead of constituent countries. 2001:8003:9008:1301:389D:A51C:CBD3:6EFC (talk) 21:21, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
Merger proposal

- The result of this discussion was merged. --Thesmp (talk) 15:58, 17 February 2022 (UTC)
Following Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2022 January 25#Constituent country I propose merging Constituent state into Administrative division. I think the content in this article (a large jumble of WP:OR/WP:SYNTH will be removed first) can easily be explained in the context of Administrative division, and a merger would not cause any article-size or weighting problems in Administrative division. @Chipmunkdavis: P.S. Another option is to merge into Federated state, although the term 'constituent state' also applied somethimes to parts of unitary states. I notified about this discussion at WikiProject Politics talk page and WikiProject Countries talk page. --Heanor (talk) 16:12, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
- Looking at the article, the vague text that could be merge is more appropriate for Administrative division, given it's synth about different divisions. That said, this title could become a disambiguation page post-merge rather than a redirect. CMD (talk) 16:52, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
- The article should be re-named "constituent country". GoodDay (talk) 18:58, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
- Support merge to adminstrative division. That's what the subject of this article is, and the sources here don't use this title as a term. Agree with CMD that much of this is vague or synthesis. Reywas92Talk 20:50, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose I support GoodDay's proposal of moving this article to constituent country. 2001:8003:9008:1301:389D:A51C:CBD3:6EFC (talk) 05:16, 4 February 2022 (UTC)
- GoodDay, renamimg "constituent country" was already rejected Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2022 January 25#Constituent country. --Heanor (talk) 08:59, 4 February 2022 (UTC)
- It is also not supported by the sourced in the article. CMD (talk) 09:31, 4 February 2022 (UTC)
- I still support renaming it "Constituent country". We did have such a named article, which was later changed to a 're-direct'. GoodDay (talk) 19:45, 4 February 2022 (UTC)
- That makes no sense, the article would have to be totally redone. Federated states are not constituent countries, confederated states are not constituent countries, and breakaway states are not constituent countries. This doesn't match the only countries that actually uses the term "constituent country", which are the UK, Netherlands, and Denmark. Reywas92Talk 00:58, 5 February 2022 (UTC)
- Agreed. Constituent country is a special term used only by those three countries. 2001:8003:9008:1301:389D:A51C:CBD3:6EFC (talk) 07:21, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
