Redirect to coordination number
editI suggest a redirect to coordination number as they are the same thing and the coordination number article has much more information. Phyesalis 04:25, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
These concepts are in fact very different. The contact number is a simple heuristic measure of solvent exposure, which is very different from a coordination number. Tomixdf 08:32, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
- My bad. Sorry, I looked this up and I found the definition of CN read, "The contact number, or coordination number, of a given residue of a folded protein is defined as the number of Cβ (or Cα) atoms in other residues within a sphere around the Cβ (or Cα) atom of that given residue." Not being cranky, just didn't want you to think that I was a complete idiot. I see now that the article was published in Australia, maybe that's the source of my confusion? It's available here (full text, second paragraph): http://www.biomedcentral.com/1471-2105/6/248
Upon further reading, I see that coordination number is c.n. and contact is CN. Sorry for the mistake. This article is tagged for context. Perhaps you could provide some, as I clearly don't know what I'm talking about. Thanks for clearing that up. Phyesalis 03:32, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
