Light on top
editEvery control tower I've seen (at an active airport) has had a rotating light on top, alternating white and green, but I've read that there are other color combinations that signify different things. Could someone come up with some information about this? Cactus Wren (talk) 09:13, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
- The airport beacon is not normally located on the tower, which usually does, however, have red flashing collision avoidance lights. 199.125.109.135 (talk) 18:35, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

The result of the proposal was no move. 199.125.109.88 (talk) 03:15, 31 July 2009 (UTC) Control tower → Air traffic control tower — I' like to propose a move to differentiate this tower from ground traffic control towers and Sea traffic control towers Sea traffic control tower definition User:81.245.88.169 15:57, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose. In my opinion 'Control tower' is used to refer to an air traffic control tower significantly more often than any other sort of control tower - a fact that appears to be borne out by google and google news searches. A hat not (and possibly also a disambiguation page if neccessary) can be used for any other sort of control tower. Dpmuk (talk) 10:24, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- Support "Control tower" is too ambiguous, and "Air traffic control tower" is much more precise and clear. We shouldn't needlessly use shorter titles, in the same way that we spell out abreviations. YeshuaDavid • Talk • 20:35, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose. Primary use. I don't believe that there is any question that this is the primary use. A hat note to point to other uses is all that is needed. Vegaswikian (talk) 20:54, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose. A Control Tower as described is the most common use of the name. Never heard of a traffic tower (or a ground traffic control tower). As suggested by Vegaswikian hat to the others. MilborneOne (talk) 21:30, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- Weak Oppose. ATC is also a common name, but CT is better. FLSIM usually uses ATC.yousaf465
- Oppose, per Dpmuk and Vegaswikian and Milborne One. Kaiwhakahaere (talk) 21:33, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- Strong support, per YeshuaDavid. "Control tower" may generally refer to this, but "air traffic control tower" leaves no room for ambiguity -- 01:48, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose. As per WP:NAME, "control tower" is clearly the most common name, and the policy advises to "avoid over-precision". In its current form, the article doesn't even mention that there are any other types of control towers? Jpatokal (talk) 03:34, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose. As per the above comments. I notice that ground traffic control tower does not currently exist, even as a redirect, and that Traffic tower does not mention that it is ever called a control tower. Given that, I suspect that there will be little confusion between them. Enter CambridgeBayWeather, waits for audience applause, not a sausage 09:54, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- Strong oppose. The Aviation industry uses the term "Control tower" so it should be good enough for Wikipedia. Mjroots (talk) 13:11, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose per common name. "Control tower" may be ambiguous, but this is by far the primary meaning. Jafeluv (talk) 11:07, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
