Relationship to "Thunder Road

The following is unreferenced, and I have never heard or read of Steve making this claim. It certainly could be true that there is an intentional reference to the earlier song by Earle, but this seems like it may be speculation. (Earle tends to talk about the sources of his songs, so a lack of explicit reference makes me doubt the connection.) I am going to change it to say that there are similariites, please feel free to give some supporting evidence and change it back.

The song "Copperhead Road" contains subtle references to "The Ballad of Thunder Road", another song about moonshine running. The second verse talks about the sheriff informing the boy's mother of his dad's (implied) death while "headin' down to Knoxville with the weekly load" (in "Thunder Road", the bootlegger ran off Kingston Pike outside Bearden, a community in Knoxville). 208.102.38.231 (talk) 16:11, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Agreed. Keep in mind that Knoxville was a major market for mountain moonshiners, so two songs mentioning bootleggers driving to and from Knoxville isn't particularly noteworthy. Bms4880 (talk) 23:00, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

Drug censorship

A friend of mine living in Missouri claims that during the 90s, his local radio station would always cut off the final verse of the song, removing all references to marijuana. Dafoe?

Okay, the music video for Copperhead Road shows a man that looks just like actor Willem Dafoe. Does anyone know anything about this? I can't seem to find any connection to the two (other than Dafoe is famous for his vietnam movie Platoon), but I can't find any mention of the actor from the music video, either. Yet, it's driving me nuts, 'cuz I'd swear it's him. Anyone wanna take a swing at this?

Added 09 Oct 2015 by Scott - Well you have the movie right but the wrong actor. It looks so much like Tom Berenger (Sgt. Barnes from platoon) that I looked it up. I think it is Peter Weller, actor from a film called Fifty Fifty (and Robo Cop). The actor does not look like any of the people others have mentioned as well as this video is from 88. So the issue is about the external link that keeps being added and taken away? The external link doesn't work in my browser. Given that it's not accessible to all, it probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. I can't make any comment as to the content of it. Why do you think it should be in or out? The policy on external links is pretty clear: "...avoid sites requiring payment, registration, or extra applications (Flash, Java, etc.) to see the relevant content...". Copperhead
