Name Origin

edit

I added a 'citation need' tag for the name origin. I'm not sure what a reliable source would be for this claim, but ancestry.com has

English (Lancashire): nickname for a carefree person from Old Norse korlauss ‘careless’."[1]

The Irish translation also seems off, since 'corr' alone means "rounded hill" [2], and 'lios' refers to a round fort or dwelling [3] (perhaps related: a Corliss Fort in Northern Ireland [4]).

It's possible that both explanations are true, and the lineages merged. In that case, both should be mentioned. Carleas (talk) 20:03, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
