Correct name
editAccording to The Plant List, the correct of this species should be Cormus domestica. MKwek (talk) 06:46, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
The newest version of The Plant List now lists Sorbus domestica as the accepted name and Cormus domestica as a synonym, so we don't need to change anything. Kavindad1 (talk) 08:57, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
Other uses
editShould some mention be made of this tree as the source of wood used for tool making? See the catalogue here: [1] where various planes for instance are shown as being made from 'cormier' which is the wood of this tree. I have two of these planes (photos available if desired) and can testify to the density and hardness of the wood. Given the pricing in the catalogue, where cormier planes are shown as 50% more expensive than hornbeam equivalents, it must have been greatly valued, and this use would evidently have been of commercial importance.
