Poole

edit

Arse. Poole was never a CB. Wonder how I got this in. Morwen - Talk 02:06, 25 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

The map was cached somewhere - as, despite you updating it, it han't shown up in the page. Hence the confusion! I wonder if there is a way to make existing images expire? One would think it would automatically happen if a newer images is uploaded in its place. Never mind... Owain 14:28, 6 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Generally shift-refresh suffices, although the squids can be a bit of a pain. Morwen - Talk 14:31, 6 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Aha, I have figured this out. That wasn't Poole on the map, it was Poole Harbour! Which also explains why it didn't border Bournemouth. Silly me. Morwen - Talk 23:55, 4 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

1913

edit

1913 stuff is tricky to track down. The Local Government Provisional Orders (No. 21) Bill debated both in the 1913 session and the 1914 session. It Luton CB, Cambridge CB and Wakefield CB. Still not been able to track down the endpoint of it - not sure whether it was amended to remove Luton and Cambridge or another was done for Wakefield alone. Also not sure whether government consented in the end or whether there was a division. 194.66.226.95 18:52, 30 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

According to the chronological tables of local acts at [1], In 1913 there was a Local Government Board's Provisional order Confirmation (No.20) Act (C.cxliv), and (No.22) (C.cxlv), but no (No.21). In 1914 there were a number of similar named Acts, but again no (No.21).
According to Youngs, Wakefield was createda CB by LGBO 31724, which must have been confirmed somewhere.

Historical County Boroughs

edit

It is not necessary to state that Newport is excluded from the map, as Newport would not even be on that map, as the map features England only, and Newport is located in Wales. This unsigned comment was left by User:213.107.2.89

not until 1974 it wasn't *sigh* Lozleader 23:17, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Table

edit

I've decided I don't like the layout of the table. I am thinking of replacing by several tables. One would be a simple map key. Another would be based on year of creation. Another would show somehow all the county boroughs that existed in 1974 and the districts they ended up in - probably sorted by new county/new district and for each of those a list of county boroughs. Any comments? Morwen - Talk 17:25, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Why not? It's a bit of a confusing beast at the moment. Do we need the "unitary since" bit at all. It's essentially unrelated/coincidental. There are plenty of unitaries that were never county boroughs.
Technically there are no county boroughs in the RoI any more they're "cities". So that should be historic too....

Yeah. I think probably as a first step splitting out the county boroughs which ceased to exist before 1974 would be a good one, and then we get a complete list of county boroughs in 1974 and their fates. I agree that the 'unitary since' could go. Morwen - Talk 19:43, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

County

edit

The Reading order made in 1911 says

The boundary between the County of Berks and the County of Oxford shall be altered so that the Borough shall be wholly situate in the County of Berks and the County Borough of Reading shall for the purposes of the Act of 1888 including the purposes of any commission of assize oyer and terminer or gaol delivery the service of jurors the making of jury lists sheriff lieutenant and militia be within the County of Berks."

the Birmingham order made in 1911 has identical wording

"The boundaries of the County of Stafford the County of Warwick and the County of Worcester shall be altered so that the City shall be wholly situate in the County of Warwick and the County Borough of Birmingham [...]" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.66.226.95 (talkcontribs) 10:58, 21 October 2006
