Species or Subspecies
editShould the Cozumel Island Coati be treated as a separate species, or as a subspecies of N. narica? MSW treats it as a subspecies.[1] Rlendog (talk) 01:56, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- Very few recent authorities treat it as a species. Rather comical that Walker's Mammals of the World was used as a citation for its species status because 1) They don't recognize it as a species, and 2) They only say that "many authorities" (not "most", and the latest they quote is ~15 years old) recognize a third species (=N. nelsoni). Recent authorities overwhelmingly treat it as a subspecies, and I will change the article to reflect this shortly. RN1970 (talk) 19:08, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
