City claim

edit

The claim to Cranbourne being a present city (in the form of a local government area) is incorrect and sources ([1] [2]) say otherwise. This error needs to be corrected. michael talk 16:19, 25 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have reverted the change to remove the comment about it being a city. -- JamesTeterenko 21:52, 25 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I know I blocked the person reinserting the comment... However, two other users have already reverted it a number of times. I think there is clear consensus other than - 49 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) that it should be removed. I will remove it again. Actually, I see that it has already been removed. -- JamesTeterenko 03:54, 19 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Editprotected?

edit

I see an {{editprotected}} request has been made, but I don't see any elaboration as to the nature of the request. How can I help? Luna Santin 06:06, 22 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have changed the phrase 'Downtown' to 'Central Melbourne' as 'Downtown' is a American expression and this phrase as far as I know, is not used in Australia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thechristoff (talkcontribs) 06:33, 29 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Population

edit

I'm removing these lines on the population for now:

"The population of Cranbourne was 1,800 in 1976, rising to 14,005 in 1986 and 18,886 in 1991. Cranbourne currently has an estimated population of at least 39,000. With the recent census, the population was estimated to be 46,000 with growth continuing."

The most recent census (2006) gives a population of 14,750 for the suburb of Cranbourne as distinct from Cranbourne North, East, South, West, etc. It is confusing to have conflicting population figures in the article. The projection of 46,000 obviously refers to the greater Cranbourne area, but I'm not sure about the figures for 1976 etc. I will have a look at past census data to see if these are indeed figure for the greater Cranbourne area. --DTGHYUKLPOQWMNB 00:09, 16 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Not a suburb of Melbourne

edit

Cranbourne is outside of the Melbourne metropolitan area. It's much the same as Melton in the west, in this respect. For starters, the phone numbers start with 5, and not 8 or 9 as metro numbers do. It's in West Gippsland - this came from someone who lives in Cranbourne. Davez621 (talk) 16:29, 15 June 2008 (UTC)....Reply

Cranbourne, in my mind, is part of Metropolitan Melbourne. The fact that it has a '5' telephone prefix is a anomaly left over from when Cranbourne was a country town. Indeed, Cranbourne still has a distinct 'town' atmosphere, - in three directions it is surrounded by farmland. Metropolitan Melbourne, ends officially at the boundary of Cardinia Shire and Bass Cost Shire/Cardinia Baw-Baw Shire boundaries. In theroy I guess, Melbourne ends after Devon Meadows as then you are outside the Urban Growth Boundary and in open country.

Methane gas leaks and teenage gangs

edit

It's established fact that Cranbourne isn't a very desirable place to live in or to be in and most of these claims would not be verifiable by any reliable sources. However, the methane gas leak and teenage gangs in Cranbourne are included in media and I believe should be placed (even if briefly) in this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.2.87.23 (talk) 20:23, 29 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
